It's Real Madrid vs Liverpool Showdown

The game of football is a beautiful one. Champions League night is also up there as one of the most beautiful nights, even ahead of Prom nights. This week’s matches are a testament to that. Except if you are Villarreal or Manchester City fan or a Rival fan, you surely had a wonderful time watching the scintillating football were blessed with in the second legs of the UCL semi-final.

Villarreal vs Liverpool

At Anfield, Villarreal's plan was obvious. Play a draw or snatch a goal and make the second leg a living heal for Liverpool. They managed to do that for 45 minutes but they weren’t so lucky in the second period. An own goal followed by a quick fired second saw them condemned to a defeat. This is football anything can still happen in the second leg- says Pundits all over the world.

And it happened! Villarreal did the unthinkable, within the first 45mins in Spain they were 2 goals up. Carragher was seen pacing with disbelief at half-time in the sky-sport studio. He was as shocked as we all. Liverpool can’t be losing so easily against Villarreal- if this is a dream, please wake me.

The second half started and Fabinho pulled one back, the keeper could have done better but the assist by Salah was good to see. Liverpool went on to score 2 more with Sadio Mane breaking the record set by Chelsea’s legend Didier Drogba. He stands as the undisputed African with the highest Knockout stage goal in the champions league.

At full time “YWNW” was on everyone’s lips and we all await the result of the Madrid, city match the next day.

Real Madrid vs Manchester City

The first leg was a thriller. I can bet only a few things beat the feeling I felt after the match, maybe food and a few other things. The goals were flying in all corners and it ended 4-3 with all to fight for in the second leg. Though it was going to be at the Bernabeu, the feeling was there that City will make it their field since Walker and Cancelo will be back. However, this is Madrid we are talking about. Never write them off until it’s over.

The second leg started as expected, with both teams being solid at the back and still attacking with full force. Courtois was in full form, making so many great saves to deny Bernardo Silva, Foden and co. The first half ended with no goal from either side.

The second half continued with the same rhythm, both teams attacked aggressively but no goal was scored until Riyad Mahrez broke the deadlock via an assist from the lively Bernardo silva. At this stage, tweets were flying, congratulating City and it looked like we are having another “All English Final”. Little did we know that Rodrygo has other plans. The hero against Chelsea was at it again, he sneaked between two defenders to score the first goal but it seems their resurgence was a little too late.

Rodrygo said, “Stay calm, I still have more magic in my bag”. He scored another goal a minute after pushing the game into extra time. This was the Rodrygo I saw against Bayern a few seasons back. The Brazilian prodigy.

Big Benz did his thing in the extra time and the rest they say is history.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool showdown

This is a replicate of the 2018 final between these two teams. We all know how it ended back then but will things be different for Liverpool in Paris?

Liverpool

If there's a team with a resolve that matches Real Madrid, it’s Liverpool. Also, with revenge in mind, they might be the champions weeks from now. Mo Salah has already set the tempo with a tweet that says “We have a score to settle”. I will say they have a 49.5% chance of winning.

R. Madrid

Can Madrid lose a Final? I’d say “No”. Even the formidable Guardiola’s Barca lost a Copa del rey final to Madrid back then. An extra-time header by Ronaldo was enough. It isn’t about how good Madrid is, it’s all about the mentality. They have the winning mentality in their DNA. It will be hard for Liverpool not to walk alone in Paris.
