Success is not about location but about who you are

How do you see the world? How would you conduct yourself? With clear self-awareness, you can enjoy success and personal growth even in a globally clumsy environment. You will find success in your time and place, but you have to have the right perspective. We struggle to accept responsibility for the fact that we are the cause, and that life and all that occurs is a result of our research, decisions, and actions. So we argue that if we move countries, relocate, or do anything different, we will have a better result. We need to stop seeking out a better place. We can find success anywhere if we stop seeking a better person and focus on being a better person.

A mismatch between your present surroundings and your inner reality might cause you to perceive a mismatch in your relationships, your family, your work, and your professional standing. The moment you make a decision you want to succeed, and there is no success, you experience a feeling of despair and guilt. This often makes many blame their environment or location for their lack of success and they continue to believe they must move somewhere else.

Moving geographical location is a popular solution many people believe will give them success. While this might help you fit into a new community and find others who are doing what you're doing, you can't see any better solution than what you have in front of you. You might find yourself in an environment that doesn't want what you are doing. You might experience rejection by those you befriend, and those you admire. The most successful people are the ones who persist, despite the challenges in their locations, because they know what success is and where it comes from.

Success is not based on location but on a person's approach and perspective to whatever situation they find themselves in. Success is not based on where you are but on who you are. You are who you are because of what you believe, because of what you do, and because of your attitude. You attract success to you because you are who you are, what you do, and what you believe.

You can move country or city as many times as you like, but if your perspective about success isn't right, you will remain in the same place or even worse, not achieve any results at all. You will fail at work. You will find it difficult to make friends. You will face other difficulties. How can you have a sense of success when you don't have the right perspective? If you're not able to believe in yourself and your capability, and because of your negative belief about yourself, you will have a negative mindset, and this is where you will find yourself stuck in a negative environment.

So many people fail to see the diamond in the place where they grew up and think they can find it elsewhere. They don't see the opportunity in their local environment. They are focused only on the obstacles they face and fail to see the myriad of opportunities in their local environment. This happens because they are focused on their location, and have not developed the right attitude to cope with the environment. If you believe success is somewhere else, you will never achieve it. If you believe you can succeed where you are, then you will.

My belief is that if someone has succeeded in doing the thing that I do in the place where I live, then, I too can be successful there. But I can only be successful there if I develop my attitudes toward that location as I would in any other location. If I develop my attitude of greatness, then I will be able to achieve success in any environment.

Anyone who can succeed in Benin will still be the one who succeeds in Lagos. It's about the approach and the perspectives you have. It's about believing in yourself and where you are and what you do. Your attitude matters most of all. Anytime I tell people how I stayed back in my village after graduation from college to start a small business with little to no capital that eventually grew into something admirable and changed my life they don't believe me. The attitude I have about business and success back in my village is still the same attitude I have today. I have been able to achieve success in business in any location I moved to because of the right attitude and focus on where I am and who I am.

Often we take pride in moving places but ignore the local environment where we operate. A person who hasn't developed the right attitude or belief system around their local environment won't be able to achieve a high standard of success. Success does not come from where you are, but from who you are, what you do, and what you believe.

Other barriers that hinder success in most cases are not because of the environment but people themselves. The concept of social class means nothing when it comes to success. We will be able to succeed in any environment because of who we are and what we do.

One may be living in a great place but if they don't have the right attitude and beliefs about life and work, then they will not be able to fulfill their goals. They will not be able to see their true potential. They will not be able to distinguish the opportunity. Success will evade them.
