Vanity Upon Vanity

Vanity upon vanity, all is vanity. I have always heard these words while growing up but I don’t have a full understanding of what they meant then.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, vanity was defined as something vain, empty, or valueless. It also says it’s an often unjustified feeling of being pleased with oneself or with one’s situation or achievement.

The old world

We have heard of many people that chase world power and domination, if they ever sat down and think “if I gain the whole world, what next” many of them never sat to even have the thought, example is Adolf Hitler, if he knew the goal he was chasing would end him having a bad name down the history line, he would have you his resources to build the world to a better place.

People who live their life for others are never compared to people who had live a life of vanity because the current world still benefits from their productive lives and sacrifice. Let’s take another example, Michael faraday, he was an English inventor and scientist who contributed to the world around him, he was known to be the father of electricity. Most of us now won’t be comfortable in a place without electricity, and many of us won’t even survive in such an environment.

There is a popular saying that says, history repeats itself because humans refuse to learn from history.

The current world

It saddens me to see that many people in the world now are only after vain things like wealth, status, clothing, cars, and all material things you can think about, I’m not saying all these things aren’t good they are the things that have made life more good and comfortable to live, but now, people have prioritized these things over the life of their fellow human. 2020 was the best year to show that most of the things that people are running after will not matter one day, the only thing that would matter will be the relationship you have built between the people around you, your riches will not matter, there won’t be different between the poor and the rich because all material things won’t be there to help, that is when you will know you have only been chasing after vanity.

Instead of people stretching a helping hand, they castigate themselves, the rich do it to themselves by trying to show who is richer and the poor by holding the one they have so it won’t finish, they never have the thought of “what if I sleep this night and never wake up, will they bury me with my worldly possessions”.

We humans have to be better because most people live a life of vanity, let’s be ready to help one another, let’s be ready to stretch a helping hand, be ready to say a reassuring word to a helpless person, be ready to share the one you have and spread love to others, the reason why you are rich is to bless others, sure you can’t help everyone, but your knowledge on how to make wealth can help dozens of people come out of poverty, share that knowledge.

The life we live is not our own

This life we are living now is not our own, you might be hearing live your life the way it pleases you, but immediately we understand that the life in which we are living is borrowed, our sense of reasoning will drastically change. I don’t know the God in which you believe, but when that god demands your life and says, this is the end for you, there are no amount of things you have acquired that will help you, not your car, your expensive clothing’s, your building or company, nothing will be able to buy your life back, the only thing that will be left is the legacy you left behind.

So let’s have a rethink of how we want to live our life, will you chase after the things of this world with all you have or be ready to help mankind and help earth a beautiful place for others to live in, seek to be a help to people and the world and all these material things that people are after will come to you easily. Be blessed and be a blessing to others. Love you all.
