I took almost 2 weeks of break from watching Korean dramas because I got preoccupied with a lot of things so when I found some time to watch again, I chose to watch the Korean drama series titled, "18 Again". I have seen other viewers recommending this drama so I decided to give it a try and see what it has to offer.
And I'm so glad that I picked this series because I enjoyed watching the drama. I laughed a lot thanks to the comedic parts of the story and I cried buckets as well because there were tear-jerking scenes that no matter how hard you try not to cry, it will still squeeze your heart.
To those who don't know, 18 Again is a Korean drama series about a 37-year old man (Hong Dae Young) who is on the verge of being divorced from his wife (Jung Da Jung) for almost 20 years, and he found himself inside his 18-year-old body and acted as Go Woo Young.
This drama is worth watching and it's definitely one of the best K-dramas I have watched so far. It also belongs to my list of favorite series because I got to learn a lot of valuable lessons, may it be in love, life, family, and marriage.
And just like what I have done with the previous dramas I have watched, here are some of the impactful lines and lessons I heard from the characters in the series.
"The Reality is a series of open-ended stories."
Unlike the movies and dramas that we get to watch on the television or cinemas that always try to give us a happy ending, the reality is that our life is a series of open-ended stories. It doesn't end once we graduate from college, get a job, and are promoted, or once we get married and build our own family.
The world doesn't stop evolving if we're happy, excited, sad, stressed, burnt out, or if we have already achieved our goals and dreams in life. The fact is our Life goes on and on so we should also continue living and keep surpassing all of the challenges that we encounter.
"Who's ever born to be a wife?"
While society thinks that married women are just supposed to stay at home, be good housewives to their husbands, and be good mothers who take good care of their children, here's Jung Da Jung breaking the social norm that society sets for all women.
All of us have the right to reach our dreams and goals in life no matter who we are as long as we are determined to achieve them. Being a woman, a wife, and a mother is not a hindrance to accomplishing what you want in life. If you want to become a newscaster, then go for it. Who cares about what society thinks. Gone are the days that women are just supposed to stay at home because we have a lot of things to contribute to the betterment of our society. So don't be afraid to fight for your dreams.
"It's so unfortunate for people like us, who don't have connections."
This was spoken by an extra in the drama but his lines hit in the core. This is one of the sad realities in life where people who don't have connections to those in the higher-ups have to go through all of the struggles just to get to where they want to be. But sometimes, they are not even given the opportunity to prove what they are capable of doing. Meanwhile, those who have connections can have what they want easier and don't require so much time and effort.
This sad reality is obvious when you are applying for a job. More often than not, applicants with backers are the ones getting hired but those who don't have won't even be heard. Well, I guess, life is really just unfair and we have to live with it. But if you are passionate to achieve your dreams, don't be discouraged by how unfair the world is and just keep moving forward to your goals.
"You're young again. You're at an age full of dreams and hope."
When we're young, it's so easy to dream and set goals that we want to achieve as if we'll get to attain all of them. We have this burning fire inside of us that makes us so enthusiastic. But as we grow older, the fire starts to dim and our hopes begin to fade because we will experience the realities and harshness of life. So while we're young, we should take advantage of this burning enthusiasm that we have in our hearts. Because once we grow older, we will be hit by reality and we can only wish to become young again.
And those are the first 4 lines and lessons from 18 again. There will be 14 more to go. Thanks for reading!
Watched it too before pero di ko na talaga matandaan mga ganap here, kaunti na lang. Hehe~ 'yung about sa women talaga eh. Mapa-movies, drama, or real life, applicable talaga eh. Buti nabi-break na s'ya nowadays, kundi. Nakooo, haha. Baka buryong na buryong na tayo sa bahay. 😅
