Last Sunday, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Local Protected Landscapes of Rocha da Pena and Fonte Benémola, protected areas under the management of the Chamber of Loulé, created by municipal decision on October 18, 2010.
To mark this anniversary, and despite the current pandemic situation, this Sunday, at Fonte Benémola, a symbolic action of environmental volunteering took place to remove waste along the footpath of this Protected Landscape, in leisure parks and car parks. The action was attended by 5 volunteers: two technicians from the Environment Division of the Municipality of Loulé, a member of the Portuguese Environment Agency - Administration of the Hydrographic Region of the Algarve, the president of the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim and member of the Management Committee of those protected areas and also a representative of the Almargem Association - Association for the Defense of the Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the Algarve.
This initiative aims to alert and sensitize visitors and society in general to the need to be more careful and aware when we are in a special area where there are natural values to preserve.
On the other hand, between October 14 and October 21, APA is also promoting in the region the Environmental Volunteering Education and Initiatives Week - SEIVA 2020, within the scope of the “Environmental Volunteering for Water” project, under the theme “ Water and Biodiversity - From theory to practice ”. In this context, it invited several public and private entities to join this initiative, which integrates several actions in all municipalities in the Algarve region, including Loulé.
This is an initiative that is part of the LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES - Volunteer with the European Solidarity Corps for Activities in Portugal with Ecological Sense project, for nature conservation, biodiversity and environmental protection activities, coordinated by MONTIS - Association for Nature Conservation , to which the Municipality of Loulé (by invitation) also joined.
Providing children who attend public pre-school education in schools in Lagos with regular motor activities, which promote their integral development and instill healthy lifestyles at an early stage, is the general objective of the “Crescer em Movimento” project.
Organized by the city council, under the pedagogical coordination of each group of schools and articulated implementation between physical education technicians and early childhood educators, “Crescer em Movimento” covers the 11 preschool rooms in Lagos and a child population aged between 3 and 5 years, who thus have the opportunity to practice one or two hours a week of guided physical activity.
The operationalization of the project on the ground involves the partnership with local sports clubs that, through a collaboration protocol established with the municipality, affect their physical education technicians to the project. It was the renewal of this partnership that the city council decided at its last ordinary meeting, approving the draft protocol to be signed with various sports clubs in the municipality, with the objective of cooperating human, logistical and financial resources, namely the provision of technicians to minister physical education classes in public pre-school education. The project could be of great assist to all the children out there and parents would also would love to have the project running and overall its a great benefit for whole society and it would be massive success too.
The project, which is in its 27th edition, has an estimated budget of € 10,068.00 for the current academic year. The activities, on the other hand, will start during these months of October and November, this year without the component of adaptation classes to the aquatic environment that, due to their specific physical contact, had to be suspended due to the pandemic of the covid-19.
Streamlined by the city council, under the pedagogical coordination of each of the school clusters and articulated implementation between physical education technicians and early childhood educators, “Crescer em Movimento” covers the 11 preschool rooms in Lagos and a child population aged between 3 and 5 years, who thus have the opportunity to practice one or two hours a week of guided physical activity.
