The Mad Man

(TRAGIC PROSE INFLUENCED BY THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA)



SETTING: VITEBEK, BELARUS



"The mad man and his children" centers on the main protagonist and character of the prose; Mikail Novik, from Vitebek, Belarus. A sad and melancholic man, with no father, but only a mother; Zhanna and her people. No responsible, good, true, loyal, accountable and stable friend. His mother had been killed and he was taken care of by her people/clan. Lots of things he couldn't tolerate from them after the death of his mother, Zhanna Novik. He leaves them and goes to the streets to hawk, he starts to take care of himself, his life and his future and though it was tough and uneasy, he remained independent and optimistic.

Mikail Novik started off at the highway hawking, slowly he got rich and even more handsome. He's also a big fan of boxing. There, he meets an average young boy (much younger than him) named Viachaslau, who wants to be independent and the two form a strong bond of friendship. Mikail Novik trains in the streets to be a heavyweight boxing champion. He is mocked and made fun of by everyone in the streets except for Viachaslau, who believes in him. Despite the mockery, the streets hawkers love Mikail like he loves them. He wants to be a boxer because of them and his mother's death also gives him the drive to do that, so he fought hard to justify his mother in a wicked world.

Mikail becomes a boxer in Gomel, with Viachaslau and they are recognized as one of the richest people in the city. The nickname; Guts over fears was given to him during the course of his boxing career due to his many victories, defeats, awards and greatness. He becomes a food for thought in Gomel but the old, his colleagues and mother's clan in Vitebek hate him because of his straightforwardness and honesty, yet he cares not. Though he was agressive and impolite, he had an honest, genuine and sincere character. He has children and a wife, Lidziya (German), very calm and reserved, the opposite of him. Nevertheless, he was also a great father anf icon to his own children. He cared not if the world hated him or tagged him as what he wasn't, as long as his wife, Lidziya and kids, Akcaha, Paviel, Valereyia and Tasiana loved him, that was enough. A bad man to the world, but a great husband to his wife and good father to his children.

Viachaslau becomes a member of his family as he later marries Akcaha, the daughter of Mikail.

Those whom he hawked with in the past later learned of the changes in his life and became amazed. Full of delight, they miss him. The mad man now knows he isn't alone, his hawking friends, his wife, kids and Viachaslau become one big family. Mikail, his wife, kids and Viachaslau all travel to Beaumaris, Wales to live in the end.
