The Power of Media and the Responsibility of Users

Have you ever imagined the world back then?

No cellular phones. No television. No radio. No computers. No references. No media. The people's only means of communication is through verbal communication. Body languages, cave paintings, and sounds formed by mouth are also included. It took days, months, and even years for all the people in the world to know a certain news. Unlike now, in just a speed of light, news and information have been spread all over the world through the power of media.

As days passed by, the world is advancing, technologies are innovating, and the more powerful the media has become.

In the presence of media, communication between the people has become easier and faster. Through the use of television, the people have become more aware of the latest happenings in their surrounding and even the world. There are also visuals and sounds that made the people to understand and believe it more as it shows realism.

Through radio, the people can do multiple things at once as it allows you to do a certain work and at the same time, acquiring information while listening to it. Print media like newspapers magazines, and other references are also form of media. And the latest, social media. It is the most advanced means of communication as it delivers information in just a click.

Media has come a long way after all these years. Because of media, more people have been provided of information. More people are given truth. Due to that, media is a powerful tool as it upholds transparency.

Media play as guardian of truth. It shows what really happens in our society. It shows the reality behind everything. As an upholder of transparency, it opens the door for freedom of information. It is vital for a nation to have freedom of information.

Having the flow of information to be smooth and open strictly evades corruption and illegal acts of the government and the citizens. It is the duty for media to open everything to the public.

As media is an information provider, the public tends to trust media since it is in its character to be reliable. As the public gives unyielding trust to the media, it becomes more potent in giving views. The public are more convinced of something if it is what the media is saying.

Furthermore, being a trusted means, it is more likely to be able to change people’s perceptions and views. The media can even manipulate how society thinks collectively. For example, the media can turn tables for criminal acts. In a case of rape, if the media shows more details about the side of the victim being at fault, saying she was drunk and wearing an inappropriate dress when the accused did the crime, it can be a way to convince the public that it is the actually victim’s fault that she was taken advantage of.

Then, thee side of the accused will be ignored. People would perceive the victim as the one to be blamed. If media shows a biased insight, even the public’s perception will be biased. Media is powerful because it is not only influential but it can also completely change people.

I really do agree with this. Media offers a lot of opportunities to alk the people. It makes the communication and information disseminate faster than before. However, we should always learn how to verify the things we see in media, since fake news is very rampant nowadays.
