May Their Souls Rest In Peace Today was another long day for me and I spent most of the day getting around things done. On my way back home, I saw that our town' s public cemetery is getting creepy. The vines are crawling everywhere and it seems like nobody has begun cleaning their friends and family's graves at this point. In a couple of days time, we are observing Undas here in the Philippines wherein we visit our departed loved ones. I missed 2 years of visiting my father's grave because of the pandemic. His body was buried in other town. My sister however is buried here in my town and I last visited her a year ago. I'm hoping I could visit my father this year if the circumstance permits.
While some are caught up with setting up their outfits for Halloween and Trick or Treat celebration, here in the Philippines, Filipinos are caught up with planning for Undas. Although I do celebrate both especially prior to the pandemic. **Undas is a festival of All Saints Day and All Souls Day here in the Philippines. This the practice where Filipinos honor the dead by visiting their remains in graveyards, recollect them and appeal to God for their spirits in paradise.** This also clarifies why November 1st and 2nd are remembered for our rundown of non-working holidays. Families of the ones departed are heading toward the cemeteries to visit their graveyards and observe Undas together. Flowers and bouquets are blooming, candles are illuminated and petitions are said for their departed loves ones for the duration of the day. Food is additionally one of the highlighted staples during Undas. Every family bring their own bites, lunch or supper to impart to other relatives. Before All Saints Day and All Souls Day starts, people who are working are attempting to get that early leave so they can venture out to their own areas via vehicle or transport to be with their families to observe Undas. Certain individuals likewise take as much time as is needed to crush in some side ventures like going to the closest beach and investing energy with their families and friends. These are a few different ways of how Filipinos observe November 1st for sure we call Undas. A few societies might celebrate differently yet, by the day's end, we as a whole offer appreciation and appeal to God for our departed loved ones.
Prior to the pandemic, we frequently spend Undas by going to the graveyards of our departed family members mostly late afternoon of October 31st, remaining there before 9 pm and contribute petitions, flowers, and lighting candles for the everlasting rest of the souls of the perished. As limitations on mass social events are set up due to the Covid-19 virus, the manner in which Filipinos mark significant events in their lives have changed both for the living and for the dead. The 2 cemeteries that we always visit had effectively given a declaration that it will be shut to the public for one entire week beginning on October 29 all things considered and will open again on November fourth. I intend to go there up to a few days before the month ends and bring flowers to my sister, father and grandparents, Afterward, light a candle and deal petitions on All Souls Day at home.
Do you you have Undas in your country? Good evening or goodnight, everyone. I am very sleepy and tired so, I'll go ahead. I'll try to catch up sometime tomorrow. Don't scare yourself, alright? It's observed by catholic in my country here.
What country?
Nigeria
oh okay
We actually don't observe Undas here but we individually offer prayers to our deceased friends and family. It is going to be an emotional day for a lot of people in the Philippines, may the soul of the deceased rest in perfect peace.
Sana mabisita mo sila this time sissy in Gods will
That's a new experience for me. But I can feel the souls on the graveyard. May their souls rest in peace.
In Nigeria especially the north, visit to grave yards are paid on Fridays. After the Jum'at prayer, people flock into the burial ground to pray for their departed.
Interesting info. Iam hearing the word Undas for the first time. In our country, We usually offer prayer for the departed soul mostly on our festive day.
This is a new experience for me. I never heard about it. May Allah give all departed souls in Janna ( Heaven) and keep them in peace.
This was fascinating to read... it is lovely to visit loved ones and pray for them and also for us. They be watching down on your guys smiling π€π€ Here in my country, most of the Hindus burn the corpses instead of burying them, so once an year, the lost souls are remembered as anniversary and prayers are done at our homes itself offering them food and leaving them on roofs and terraces for the crows to eat.. we call it "Vardhanti" here
Undas is near but the pandemic is still here. You can offer them your prayer at home n lng po after a quick visit and clearing to the graveyard.
Oo sis nagdadala kami ng bulaklak at kandila. Minsan nagdadala kami ng paint para pintahan ulit at lilinisan. Ingat ka sis....π
In Venezuela we also have a day for the dead and another one for the saints, in the past they used to gather in the cemeteries until late at night, it was changed due to the continuous assaults, they only visit during the day. Here the pandemic has not changed that, many people do not believe in the Covid.
Bumibisita kami a head of the said date kasi yun nga Sirado ang mga Puntod. Upang maiwasan nadin ang siksikan. Happy Halloween
Iβm in Nigeria Thereβs nothing like Undas day here but we celebrate our loved ones that are dead too Maybe you should go to the cemetery when they open Take heart dear
Nkaka miss din ung traditional natin na celebration ng Undas, for sure this year magiging kagaya rin last year na halos sa bahay nlng :(
I'm so sorry to read about this, I wish I could go back in time sometimes... we dont have that over here. I'm sure you'll get the chance again.
I don't think we observe such things in my country...
It is very difficult to lose loved ones, but it makes you strong, God bless you dear friend...
Indeed, my friend! Thank you!
Hindi na nmn ako makakadakaw sa aking mga namayapang mahal sa buhay dahil hindi namn Kami makakauwi ng probinsya, hanggang tirik na nmn ako nito ng kandila sa labas ng bahay

We used to visit or deceased loved ones every year, and that's until four or five years ago, I think. We don't visit them anymore and just come by from time to time to clean and maintain the place.
oh!!!
Ako dalawang beses ako dadalaw sa libing ng aking ama ngayong undas at death anniversary nya. Pero hindi ako sure eh kasi ang layo. Pero i will try. I really miss him. Simula nung pumanaw sya ay hindi man lang sya nagparamdam or dumalaw sa panaginip ko.
Ang hirap kasi ng sitwasyon, sis!
When I was a kid I remember that we always look forward to the going-to-the-cemetery" thing. I can remember the light bulbs that are put in each grave boxes.
Aren't you visiting now?
Here in my country we also honor the dead and celebrate All Saints' Day. I have several relatives buried but the cemetery is a bit far away.
I think Catholic countries celebrate it, my friend!
Hays maka dalaw nga din sa tatay at nanay ko, anlapit lang samin diko man lang maisip nakakamiss tuloy yung dating panay dalaw namin mag kakapatid tsaka yung saya tuwing undas di tulad ngayun. Mas mainam ngang dumalaw ng maaga para di masiyado crowded cemetery.
Yes, Coco. Mainam maaga pumunta.
Here is a holiday on Saints' Day. But we can't say we have a proper celebration. Your Undas sounds more like the day of the dead that Mexicans celebrate. And there is a huge and traditional celebration for the deads in Mexico.
Yes, amiga! More like the day of the dead in Mexico.
