Chapter 3

We Meet Again

Evan woke up early, not really wanting to face the day after yesterday. He knew that he needed to get up though. His mother would probably kill him if he didn't show up for breakfast. He stretched out his arms in front of him and slowly swung his legs over the side of his bed. He stood slowly and made his way into the kitchen, only to find that his mother hadn't returned yet. Maybe she had gone to work. Evan made himself a bowl of cereal, sat down and waited.

About an hour later his mother walked into the kitchen wearing her usual black dress and heels. She took one look at Evan, smiled softly and gave him a hug "Good morning sweetie". she kissed his cheek and sat next to him at the table. Evan started to shovel food into his mouth but stopped when she spoke "Evan are you sure you're feeling alright?" She asked gently rubbing his arm. Evan froze before answering.

"Yes, ma, I just haven't slept well last night." Evan lied. His mother knew something wasn't right.

She nodded slightly "Okay honey, if you need anything let me know" She smiled and gave his hand one last squeeze before standing and leaving. Evan ate the rest of his cereal and went to take a shower. When he came out he noticed that he had missed a spot of water. He sighed, knowing that he couldn't leave it for his mother to come and clean. He cleaned the kitchen counter up took the news paper to search for jobs nearby. He found several promising spots. The biggest though was still a couple states away, but Evan already had three interviews lined up. He grabbed his bag and drove to the nearest airport. The flight took longer than the last two times so he fell asleep shortly after takeoff. He awoke to his flight attendants telling him that they were landing.

When the plane finally touched down at its destination Evan got out and took a deep breath of fresh air. He grabbed his bags and made his way off the plane. He looked around trying to figure out where he should go first when his eyes locked onto a familiar burnetehead Anna was standing right there . Evan had completely Forgotten about Last night's events It looked like she was looking around too, and she was alone.

Evan waved to catch her attention and she turned to him, a smile on her face when their eyes met. Evan walked toward her and stopped a few feet away "Hey! Good to see you again!" he exclaimed

"Good to see you again ".

The two stood staring at each other for what seemed like forever. Finally Evan cleared his throat and looked around "Where's your mother?".

She looked down at her shoes as she rubbed her arm, she looked back up at Evan and said quietly "I left her with a caretaker since I have to Earn the bread for us two .Enough about me tell me Why are you here ?"

Evan smiled and replied "I came here for an interview "

"Really? What kind of job?" she asked.

"Well, it's an architectural design job but there isn't a specific role that I can play in the project." Evan answered

She hummed before walking past Evan "Come on. We'll walk to my car." She then began to turn and walk towards the exit

Evan followed her to the car. As he got into the passenger seat Anna glanced over at him "So tell me about yourself."

Evan shifted awkwardly in his seat "Well I'm 22, a widower and a Mama's boy"

"Widower? what happened to your wife?"asked Anna realizing how insensitive her question could be she apologized

"Iam so sorry I didn't meant to come like that at you right away."

" Her car had an accident while she was with her lover .She was cheating on me . People can say she caught her Karma but I was the most heart wrenched .She was the love of my life "

As the car ride went on, Anna realized that she did not know anything about Evan except his name. She had never even bothered to ask him who he was or what he did. Anna decided that maybe asking for information from Evan would be a good thing since it might give her something to work with to make him a bit more comfortable.

Anna pulled into the parking lot outside a large warehouse. It looked like construction workers were packing boxes to drive away, so Anna parked and turned to Evan “This is your building.Seems like you will have alot of work to do here but once it is all settled do visit me in the store right down the street "

Anna said as she pointed towards a interior designer store

"That's where I work ."

"Hope we bump again into each other "

Evan said as he got off the car
