After pulling a couple of successful operations as a team. Joseph who was obviously the gang leader called for a meeting one day. He announced that it was high time they quit petty robbery in traffic and concentrate their efforts on kidnapping. According to him, there was much money to be made from kidnapping.
The other guys, Tony and manna welcomed the idea but Kome wasn't comfortable with it.
"How long have you been thinking about this ,Joseph and why do you think this is the best way for us?
Kome asked, disapprovingly.
" I understand that we have been successful in our outings so far, but we shouldn't allow overconfidence push us into trouble. Kidnapping is a very complicated business and our safety should be considered first before talking about money". Kome warned.
But his three companions in crime have already embraced the plan and they were beginning to label him a coward.
Alot of thoughts ran through Kome's mind. He had eaten, drank and made merry with these guys he called friends for a long time . He was expected to work along with them as an important member of the ganng, he couldn't afford to pull out of the association now, despite his fears . He was also aware that any decision he makes that goes contrary to the gang's interest would incur a wrath. So, he reluctantly agreed to the plan.
In the weeks that followed, Kome's mother who was residing at the village kept calling him on a daily basis. when he complained that her calls were getting too much, she revealed to him that she had been having some strange dreams recently. In her dreams, she always see policemen chasing her son. She only wanted him to be more careful.
Kome knew that these were signs that he shouldn't ignore. But no sooner had he spoken with his mother that his phone rang again. Joseph was on the line and he told him that manna had gotten an idea of who their first kidnap victim would be.
Her name was Abigail. A 23 year old daughter of a popular politician in the state. Her boyfriend lived in a street that was not too far away from manna's house. She'd always comes around to visit him on sundays at around 6pm and she drives alone.
Kome wondered how possible it was to stop a moving car in the middle of the road in broad daylight without drawing attention. But Joseph had figured how to go about that problem already.
They would have to disguise as policemen on a stop-and-search duty . Infact, Joseph had already gotten the uniforms that they would wear. They went through the plan over and over again and agreed that it was foolproof.
Maybe it was high time that Kome starts ridding his mind of doubts if he was going to go along with the plan. They all had to believe that this operation would work and maintain a positive mindset. The needed the money.
The day of the abduction came and two of the members of the gangs, Kome and Tony dressed as fake policemen and positioned themselves strategically on the road that the politician's daughter was expected to drive through.
Manna was to hang around the premises outside the house she had visited. His duty was to relay information to the boys as soon as the Abigail leaves the house and start coming towards the highway. So that they could get ready.
Fifteen minutes after manna had called to inform the rest of the gang that she was already on her way, they swung into action and mounted the road. Infact the plan was to "search" only her vehicle. Manna had also informed the boys her brand of car and the color too, so it wasn't difficult for them to identify her.
Abigay was angry at the officers who had abruptly stopped her vehicle and asked her to show her license.
" Do you know who my father is?!"....
No sooner had she started screaming that Tony pointed a gun at her and she freezed. The two gang members quickly got into the car and ordered her to drive.
Few minutes later, they arrived at their hideout. With a blindfold over her eyes, they led Abigail into an uncompleted building.
Although the abduction had been successful, Kome's mind hadn't been at ease through out the operation. Even now that they are now safe at their hideout, his heart kept pounding against his chest. He kept nursing a strange permonition that things would definitely go wrong with the plan.
Joseph who had been waiting at the hideout all the while welcomed his boys. With a triumphant smile on his face, he congratulated them on a successful mission. He looked at Kome and saw the look of fear in his eyes but he didn't care.
Joseph went into the hideout and returned with a phone which he handed to Kome to call the girl's father. He would be the one in charge of the negotiations and ransom collection.
