It was supposed to be an easy job. II
Good day everyone. Wishing you all a beautiful week ahead. 💝
You could read the first part of the story here.
Joseph saw the look of raw fear in Kome's face and immediately reminded him that he had promised not to tell anyone about the guns. He advised him to just forget about it. Afterall he wouldn't have told him this if they haven't become close.
Kome had also been a thug some years ago, so he quickly got over the shock. Joseph continued to reveal alot of things to him. He told him that his boys operated in the traffic where they snatch phones, laptops and money from commuters. They would later sell the phones and laptops and whatever money they realized from the sales would be shared equally among the three of them. Joseph would receive his share when the boys returned with his pistols.
Kome couldn't believe it when Joseph told him that he had bought two lands and have already started building a house on one of them. All this was made possible from the money realized from this racket.
"So why do you still work as a salesboy if you have achieved all these?". Kome asked in confusion.
"Well, if I start spending my money without having a physical job, people would definitely start talking. I use this sales job as a cover to avoid suspicion". Joseph laughed.
Joseph also advised Kome to start using his brains too else time and opportunities would elude him.
" I need you to show me the way Joseph. I'm ready to do anything , but I don't think I can ever touch a gun. That's completely out of it". Kome said desperately.
" Well, there's no other way I could show you apart from what I already told you, unless you are ready to work as a labourer at my building site". Joseph said teasingly and they both laughed.
A month later, the owner of the shop where Kome and Joseph worked as sales apprentice had announced to them that he would be closing down the business. The explanation was that he was not making enough profits as there were bigger competitors in the area. So he had decided to relocate to another state and try his hands on a different trade.
Well, this news didn't come as a shock to any of the boys even though it means that they would become jobless very soon. Kome was particularly indifferent. He had been going about the job absentmindedly since the day Joseph revealed to him how he makes so much money. As a matter, he didn't fancy hunting for another boring job. He now has a burning desire to do what others are doing to make money rather than slaving at a job .
Three weeks after losing their job. Kome paid his friend Joseph a visit at his apartment. Joseph was watching a movie in the company of his girlfriend. Kome noticed that Sandra had put on alot of weight since the last time he saw her, it was evident that Joseph and his babe were living quite a comfortable life despite the recent sack. Sandra greeted him politely and excused herself.
" I want to start running my own operations so I want one of your pistols. I promise to give you part of the proceeds of each successful operation". Kome said as soon as Sandra had left them.
Joseph looked at Kome as if he were mad. " What do you need a pistol for. You have never held a gun before. You don't just wake up one day and decide to venture into robbery. Trust me, this business is not as easy as you would think".
"Listen JoJo, I have been pushed to the wall. No food, no money, no life, I have to find my own way......."
"I understand".
Joseph interrupted him.
"But don't make things more complicated for yourself than it is already. I suggest you'd rather go through some form of training with my boys for sometime so that you could gain some experience first, before setting out on your own, else you might land yourself in trouble".
"Why do you talk to me as if I were a child? I was once on the streets too, I had a reputation and I have learned the ropes. I could still learn more and do just fine on my own"!. Kome blurted out furiously.
After much consideration, Joseph allowed Kome to have one of his guns and the following day, Kome entered the streets with a fireman and returned home with money.
Within two weeks, rumors began to fly around about a new guy on the block. But no one could Identity Kome because he he wears a hood while robbing in the traffic. Kome was proud of himself, infact he was even more determined more than ever to make alot of money out of this business. This stubbornness must be good for something!
He robs successfully at the traffic twice a week and his life began to change gradually. Although, he was aware of the risks involved in this sort of thing but there would always be risks and dangers in life. And as a man, it was his duty to take risks and overcome them. Nothing good comes out easy in life.
One night, while on an operation, Kome was suddenly surrounded but just by a stroke of luck, he managed to escape. The incident really shook him that he decided to lay low for a month and also restrategise.
What would have happened if he were caught, how would he have explained himself?? He thought about the shame he would have upon his mother and sister and a cold shiver ran through his spine.
Sometimes you can't take the world on your own, you needed people to succeed. Kome decided to go talk to Joseph again.
"Instead of your boys working independently, why don't we all join forces and operate together as a team"
Joseph saw the sense in this and promised to talk to his boys and give Kome a feedback later .
Well, if this works out, they would become invincible, they'd shake the earth. Afterall, two heads are better than one, Kome thought excitedly!
To be continued.......
