It was suppose to be an easy Job. I

There had been signs that there would be a heavy rainfall later in the morning, so Kome had arrived at his place of work much earlier than usual.

He saw his colleague Joseph walking out of the office with a little bag in his right hand which he gave to two dirty looking guys that Kome had never seen before.

Joseph was shocked when he turned around and saw Kome watching them and as soon as the strangers had gone, Kome approached Joseph and demanded to know what he had given to those boys.

Kome and Joseph had been working in this vehicle spare part for almost a year now. The owner of the shop only visited once or twice in a week to see how his business was doing and how the boys were managing it. Since joseph was always the first to arrive as his house was not that far away, he was the one that holds the keys to the shop.

Kome still wanted to know what Joseph had given to those strangers from their boss's office. But Joseph only smiled and told him to forget about it.

Now, their boss was a very strict man and Kome knew that if he finds out that some goods or an item was missing or unaccounted for, the both of them would be in serious trouble. Kome still insisted to know what was going on and he began to scream at Joseph. He even threatened to report what he saw to their boss when he comes to the office again. He would tell the boss to cease the office keys from Joseph and evenchange the lock.

Immediately, Joseph looked at Kome, a murderous look jumped into his eyes and he laughed an evil laugh.

" If you say a word to the boss about this matter,I promise I'd make you regret the day you were born! ". Joseph warned in a cold dead voice and walked out if the shop angrily .

Kome was very surprised at this tone. This was the first time Joseph would speak to him in such a manner. Infact, Joseph was a very quiet person who looked as if he would never be able to hurt a fly. How come he reacted violently to such a trivial matter? Kome thought about this and became quite worried.

Kome was also not a soft person, he had been a jobless street thug while he was still living in his mother's house at the village. His uncle had brought him to the city two years ago where he could get a job and become a better person. Even at that, he was still very tough.

"How dare this fool talk to me in such a manner, who does he think he is ? God knows that I would have beaten the hell out of him if he had tried this nonsense with me outside". Kome was already seething with rage.

...... But the way Joseph had really scared him

The two boys avoided each other for the rest of the day till evening came and it was time to close for the day. Then Joseph approached Kome and apologized for what has happened between them earlier in the morning.

" I'm very sorry for the way I behaved, I was not in a good mood hence my reaction", Joseph said apologetically. Kome said there was no problem and the two boys made peace. Afterall it was a small issue and the both of them were men.

The two boys became very close friends after the incident and since Joseph had been working at the store before Kome was brought in, he taught him some tricks. Tricks like how to make little personal profits from the shop through some illegal ways that their boss would never find out. Sometimes after work, the two guys would visit a nearby bar or brothel to have a good time.

Three weeks later, Kome arrived at the shop earlier than usual and once again, he saw Joseph giving a little parcel to thesame guys. This time, Kome was very eager to know what was going on, so he asked Joseph what was inside the bag.

Joseph was quiet for sometime and when he started talking again, he told Kome to swear that he would never tell anyone else if he reveals to him the contents of the bag. Kome was so curious that he agreed immediately, he promised Joseph that he would remain quiet about it.

Joseph told him that the bag contained a gun, his gun. And whenever the boys have pulled a successful operation, they would return the gun to him alongside his share of the ill-gotten money.

With his mouth agape, Kome took two steps backwards as cold fear ran through his spine. Joseph continued to look at him with a steady but murderous stare...
