He never felt a pain in his life!

In my first article on read.cash were I made my introductions, I mentioned that dad was a journalist. He's actually a political editor at a publishing company in the northern part of the country. Well everyday, dada would return home with atleast four different newspapers. I'd be the first to welcome him, since he always arrive home at around eight in the evening when I'm at my assignments at the table in the living room.

Most times, I would have to temporarily suspend my assignments and go through my favorite newspaper which carried stories that fascinates me. The other three are always filled with political news that made me bored.

One day, I came across the story of a nine year old boy who had a genetic condition that made him unable to feel any pain. All the ghastly slips, serious injuries and dangerous hits that would make kids of his age scream in agony for their Mom never had any impression on his body. I even read that there was a time he fractured his thigh bone. He only knew that something could be wrong at the region as he was unable to stand, but the pains wasn't registered since his body was totally insensitive to a pain.

For the next ten minutes, I couldn't help looking at his picture as a lot of thoughts were going through my mind. What a superhuman! I was just three years older than him. At just nine years, I believed he could singlehandedly beat up all the bullies at his school, even though they are ganged up against him.

Those days, Just like most children in Nigeria, I was also a passionate fan of wrestling. I imagined if he ever ventured into WWE, he would make history as the greatest performer of all time. He would flawlessly had won all his matches, right from his debut till the day he retires, that's if he would ever retire.

I also thought how wonderful it would be to see him laughing out loud while he is been flogged by our discipline master who would in a short while become exhausted with his face and shirts soaked in perspiration....My childish mind kept thinking about other fascinating moments that would be created by this special kid.

I stumbled upon Isaac's story over a decade ago. Today, I wonder how life had been for Isaac. Thanks to education enlightenment, I was able to realize that Isaac's condition can also put him in a very precarious position. If he ever gets bitten by a dangerous reptile when he's not looking, he might lose his life if something is not immediately done about the poison before it reaches his heart.

Not been able to feel pain doesn't mean he is divine or timeless. He could die just like how others would if something ever goes wrong in any of his internal organs. What is worse is that he wouldn't feel any warning signs since he's already immune to pain. Before he realizes what's going on, he would have already been eaten by a chronic disease. Pains are of essence you know, they help protect the body from greater peril. I just hope that Isaac observes atleast a bi-monthly check-up.

Well, despite not been able to feel physical pains, Isaac is definitely not immuned to emotional trauma . We all know that intrinsic or subjective pains could be even worse than a bodily pain.

Out of curiosity, I wonder the kind of man Isaac had now become or what he does for a living. I wouldn't like to think he uses his condition for selfish or dishonorable purposes because he wouldn't be able to escape the pains of the hereafter which is more brutal than the worldly pains.

Thank you for reading my nonsense article today 🤭🤭🤭....Maybe the good doctors @Lara888 and @gertu13 would be able to shed more light about Isaac's condition.

I'm just learning this today, I never knew there were some people, existing in this world we live in; that are immune to pains. You have great writing skills, it shows your passion for reading... I learnt alot from this: "being immune to pains has its advantages and disadvantages."

Not feeling pain may seem great at first, but in fact, it exposes us to many dangers without taking precautions

I was navigate my mind with thoughts while reading this. I've only seen that in movies and never believe it exist in real life except w**tchcrafting is involved.

It's very true that not being able to feel pains does not mean that diseases can not harm such fellow. In such case, all he need to do is to master how to detect abnormal feelings in his system. I'm just thinking and imagining 😴

Exactly. He should never think himself as a superhuman. Infact he's more vulnerable than anyone else

I always thought how cool it would be to not feel anything physically and emotionally.. but again, watched few documentaries of people who actually go through this and felt sorry for them.. one girl who couldn't feel pain did not even realize her hands are burned.. thank God for senses I guess

I thought I was the only one who found regular news on newspapers boring. I always went for the interesting comics and sadly, they were never as much as the uninteresting stuffs.

Not feeling any pain has to be...I really don't even know how to put it nor what word to use. Part of what makes us human is because we can feel pain. So not feeling that I have to say takes humanity away.

The boy had said he wished he could just feel the remotest pain before he died, just to experience what others are feeling.... Funny, how many at people are battling with pains while someone is praying to just have a taste of it

I want to believe Isaac isn´t a Zombie 😂 because Zombies too do not feel pain at all. Like the movie "Zombie detective" I watched sometimes back, this zombie guy never felt any pain at all even though he tried his best to return back to normal being again. For a person not to feel pain at all, though it´s something supernatural but I don´t think it´s good.

Lol. Reminds me of a movie called " omen" where the main character is painless just like a zombie 😆.. yea, it might look cool, but I don't think it is

I have also heard of this peculiar case before and I found it fascinating but later on I realised it's a curse because there's a reason we actually feel pain; it's a measure put in place to tell our body when something is becoming too dangerous. Imagine putting your hands on a very hot pot and you can't even tell it's dangerous until your skin peels off and you start bleeding.

That's the truth. The disadvantaged outweighs whatever advantage the condition could give the person. One can't be too careful in this perilous world. A little injury might even less to amputation when neglected, since the wound wouldn't give him any discomfort

Luckily I'm up late today, first of all I didn't know your dad was a journalist, that's great! Now I know the reason for your amazing writing! It's in the family's blood. As for Isaac’s case, it is a hereditary disorder in the receptors responsible for pain associated with a disturbance in the sense of heat. The receptors do not receive the alert and do not transmit it to the brain in order to feel it or make a normal reaction to it. This is bad because pain is an important feeling to avoid what exposes a person to danger and to give initial signs of any harm, in addition to that it may be associated with other genetic disorders 😃

Lol. Dad even thought I had passion in journalism since I read the newpapers voraciously 😆. thanks for your brilliant contribution Doc. Hopefully you doctors and scientists might be able to research more on Isaac's condition in the near future and get more familiar with such neurological maps. Your findings might be used to help control the extent of pains in other patients especially those battling cancer 🤦

In fact, a lot of research has reached amazing results with regard to cancers, but some of them are still in the experimental stage, according to the laws that apply to any treatment before it is generalized, in addition to the fact that some of them are very expensive, and now there are many cancers that are treatable with early detection

Sure, I heard that too. Cancers can mostly be defeated at the earliest stages. So heartbreaking to see patients go thru so much pains
