Carrots are a vegetable that likes to grow in loose and fertile beds.

Carrots grow properly in loose soil, and it's easy to harvest root crops in the fall from such soil. 

First, for carrots to grow well, you need to choose the right beds for sowing.

Carrots grow well in beds where cucumbers, cabbage, onions and legumes used to grow.

It is very important on beds with carrots to remove weeds, as they do not allow the weak roots of the vegetable to fully develop.

Beds for carrots fertilize with organics, namely decomposed manure and mineral complex fertilizers, such as superphosphate and potassium sulfate. 

Muck can be replaced with chicken manure or calcium nitrate.

Nitrogen fertilizer is applied under the digging during the formation of beds, and then sprinkle the soil with mineral fertilizer.

If one nitrogen fertilizer is applied, the root crops will crack and grow crooked. 

We will be planting carrots soon, so the topic of preparing carrot seeds for sowing is very relevant today.

Usually the delayed germination of carrot seeds is due to the fact. That the seeds of this plant contain a lot of essential oils, which prevent the rapid access of moisture to the germ. So any carrot seeds should be washed several times with warm water and soaked before sowing to ensure that they swell. If we use dry seeds, it will take 15 to 20 days before the germ emerges.

If you want to get friendly and timely sprouts, the preparation of carrot seeds for sowing is a necessary and important procedure. Put some time and effort into it, and these efforts will surely return to you in the form of a beautiful harvest of juicy carrots.

Seed preparation

Carrots do not sprout immediately, unlike radishes. What does this have to do with it? Everyone has noticed that carrot seeds smell strongly. This smell is given by essential oils that impregnate the seed coat. Before you plant carrots, you need to wash away the essential oils. To do this, pour the carrot seeds into a cloth bag or an old sock,

Tie them up and put them in a glass. They are poured into water 45-50° and incubated until it cools completely. The water, colored light orange, is drained and the seeds are poured again. The washed seeds are spread out on a dry towel to dry to a crumbly state. Now our seed is ready for sowing.

Before planting carrots with seeds, you can stick them on a paper strip. A toothpick is dipped in glue, clinging it to the seeds and glued to the paper after 1.5 cm.

How to plant carrots in a row

Before planting carrots, you need to prepare the soil. Since autumn, 2 kg of decomposed humus per square meter is made.

Carrots like to lie down on hard compacted soil.  For the sprouts to be friendly, the seeds should be sown to the same depth. To do this, the soil is loosened with a flat-tine and laid with a board with an edge, forming furrows. Each furrow is sprinkled with water and proceed to plant carrots. The easiest thing to do with pelleted seeds. The pellets are placed every 5 cm. Before planting carrots pellets, beds are abundantly sprinkled with water so that the pelleted shell soak.

And if you have the most common small seeds? The seed is mixed with sand in the proportion of 1:5 or use a special planter. When sowing, care is taken not to overgrow the planting. During the first thinning, pulling the weak sprout, we damage the delicate roots of neighboring carrots.

Sown seeds are covered with a centimeter layer of dry soil, compost or biohumus. Do not water the seeds from above, otherwise a crust will form, making it difficult for the young to germinate.

Seeds can be embedded with coconut substrate. Briquette put in a bucket and pour water until it swells. Coconut substrate is very light and holds moisture very well. Sprouts quickly break through it.  The germination of seeds is almost doubled.

Practice alternating rows of carrots with plantings of onions every 15 cm. Onions will repel flies with their scent.
