Keyboard Warriors, Go Brrrr!
We live in a democratic country and we have freedom of speech. I clearly understand that. We are allowed to comment, compliment, and complaint about things that we see all around us. We are free to express anything that we feel about various things. Everybody has the right to do it but that should be supposed to be fair and responsible unlike what is really happening on the ground (the magic phrase ✌) these days.
Social Media platforms nowadays are playing a vital role in letting everyone convey their concerns about anything. May it be that they want to reach out to some organizations for help, they wanted to complain about something, they wanted to call for the attention of the people for awareness, some just spreading good vibes, some are just bombarding the platforms with hate speeches, and some just wanted to share some inspiring stories. However, the hottest topic that people always talk about in the whole country is politics for it is nearly coming. The topic where most social media users sound like political analysts.
For all the problems that the Philippines have been facing today, naturally, people would be much more careful in choosing who to elect as the next leader for the next 6 years of our lives that will surely serve us truly and lead our way to prosperity. A lot of people have openly endorsed their chosen candidates and show their utmost support for them. A lot of them have even volunteered to campaign for their chosen bets. A lot also have been trying hard to defend their candidates in any form and it always comes with exchanging arguments on social media. May it be in a form of respectful statements or hateful comments, then they go bashing all the way.
If you are using social media accounts here in the Philippines, you would know how it's obvious enough how much toxicity did it caused all over the internet just because of politics. People really spend their time exchanging hateful speeches and jumping over their limits just for their candidates. Some are obviously paid trolls and some are not paid but just trolling around just for fun to trigger anyone, then a lot of exposures for their names to be talked about also or their business pages to be noticed. But there are people really that are indeed serious in absorbing any ideas that they can see in those platforms. Then explode within seconds if they don't accept your opinion. They would act like their opinion are always right and starts opposing everyone that would argue. Whoever cries, then they are losers.
I call those people the "Keyboard Warriors". To the extent of how much they can defend their candidate and to the point that they look like crybabies already that are teased for being ugly, you can think that maybe they are getting paid to do that since it seems like it is their only job for the day. I can see a lot of them commenting on every post about politics. They drop comments with the same hashtag, same lines for advertising, and some even have a complete list of the achievements of their candidates for an easy slap to their opponents. Then they will attack and cancel anyone that will oppose them. Some of them are even educated and came from a good family but to how they share their arguments, they seem that they are not like that for real.
It's frightening to share your thoughts regarding political matters online. It's even more frightening when some of your friends are in opposition from your perspectives. No matter how much you like to express your freedom of speech, you'll just choose to abstain from it to avoid unnecessary and unlikely outcomes. Then just choose to keep silent, so you wouldn't get canceled and trending.
Supporters are getting out of hand and a lot are going below the belt. They don't care anymore about the value of your friendship, nor the bond you have with them as your family. They will fight for what they think is right and speak as they will die for their candidates. They are not even sure if their candidates think of them in that very same way also. You fight for them, what do you get after the elections then? Broken ties. But for those politicians, they will just have a truce as if nothing happened.
See who will bear the losses in the end?
It would still be just us, not those politicians who are just users and will just leave you with either empty or broken promises in the end. That's why even though I have a candidate that I like and would like to openly support also, I'll just keep it silent no matter what. I'll just vote who I want to vote for these upcoming elections and keep my votes private. It's better that way than having a lot of trouble and losing friends or families just because you defended your opinion which is opposite to what they believe.
Whether you get what I mean or not, still thanks for reading.
