Responsibilities
As humans, we have been cursed with the burden of responsibilities to ourselves, our family and loved ones and lastly, the society. much as some may argue that we owe no one anything, is that really so? Let me use a basic example of Family. We were brought into the world oblivious of everything. But, we were someone's responsibility - be it our parent or guardian. I would be saying my piece under three headings.
Self
Family and Friends
Society
SELF
Much as we care about other people and our responsibilities to them, we also have responsibilities to ourselves. For starters, it is our responsibility to keep a good personal hygiene, a lot of people do not really care for their body, and it is strange really. It is one thing to no be a fan of things such as body spray or perfumes. But, you can't say that you're not a fan of bathing or shaving your pubic region or even brushing your teeth. It is your duty to do all these for yourself, unless of course you are a toddler, and I don't think anyone reading this right now is one.
Furthermore, you also owe yourself the responsibility of living right, and this includes eating well and keeping your body healthy and happy. They say health id wealth, and even though good health is underrated, you mustn't take it for granted. Lastly, you owe yourself the responsibility to be happy, Whatever you are, whatever you do and wherever you may find yourself, always give yourself happiness, have fun, take that trip, buy those shoes. Just be happy.
FAMILY AND FRIENDS
From birth, we automatically become a part of the family we've been born into, bonded by blood and not by choice. Our parents too, have also birthed with us a responsibility to care for us, at least, until we are old enough to care for ourselves. Since we have no choice about who we are related to by blood, there is also the compelling expectation of loving those in your family. That is a talk for another day. We do owe our family a duty or care and love, wouldn't you say? Our parents, we are to take care of when they are old and frail, not abandon them.
I have said before that friends can be family too, just that we are not related to them by blood. Loyalty to those we love, trust and commitment too. All these are responsibilities for us to those we love. A man for instances feels responsible for providing for his family a well as keeping them safe. A woman, feels responsible for caring for the home, husband, as well as her children. It is her responsibility as well as that of the father to inculcate morals and values as well as knowledge about certain things.
SOCIETY
Well, I am particularly careful about this heading so I do not say what someone else may misinterpret wrongly. But what are our duties to the society? I would say it is to to be good humans. I have personally been an antagonist of a lot of things that is normal in my society, and that is because I find them flawed or simply inappropriate.
Unfortunately, society has bestowed upon me, as a male, many other responsibilities as it has the female gender too. It is her responsibility to take care of the house chores, it is his responsibility to work and provide for the family, it is they duty of the man to be strong and not show any emotion in trying times.
Much as it is important to be a responsible member of the society, family and to one's self, we must be careful not to succumb to responsibilities that would weigh us down instead of lifting us up and keeping us on the path to success or fullfilment. Always remember to stay happy, and do not let responsibilities make things very difficult for you.
