Do you know all the wonders of the world? If you're a person who loves to indulge yourself in such things then I bet you do..

The Banaue rice terraces of the Ifugao province, Region CAR at the North-central Luzon of the Philippines was considered the eight wonders of the world. The region itself was of high mountain ranges so that when you roam around it, you will see small clusters of rice terraces but the Banaue rice terraces was really magnificent, it stood among them all.

The rice terraces resemble steps, thus, the title. It was built by the indigenous people's ancestors some 2000 years ago, experts said. It was carved on mountain sides largely by hand with minimal tools.Yet,it looks like it was designed by an engineer. (You can see how industrius the people of the mountain people were up until today it runs to their descendants.)

It is located 1500 meters above sea level and cover approximately 10,360 square meter of the mountainside. It is said that when these steps are to be put end to end, it would cover half of the globe.

Water is brought down from the rainforest above through an irrigation which was efficiently made by the ancestors to supply and feed the ricefields.

Rice was the main crop and food staple in most of the Cordillera region and so thus in this province. Moreover, vegetables were also cultivated in it..

In 1995,it was identified a UNESCO World Heritage site. However,it was removed from the list in 2012 due to unregulated development and lack of management. Local officials began to promote it for tourism for it is now becoming a major tourist spot.
