Neuritis is an inflammatory condition of the nerves or nerve sheath. It can affect any part of the body but it generally occurs in the main nerve of the face, arm, or leg. Sciatica, neuralgia, and neuritis of the arm are all types of this disorder.
Numbness of the arm during sleep is a type of neuritis caused by faulty sleep habits in which the head or some part of the body is pressing on the arm. I, for one usually experience this when breastfeeding my baby at night wherein I make my arm a pillow, then I go back to sleep without fixing myself to a proper position. The effect would be a cold and stabbing pain on the back of my neck and on top of the affected shoulder, down the arm and sometimes to thr wrist and fingers, which causes sometimes a numbing or tingling sensation.
This damages the nerves and also causes blood congestion from pressure on the veins. However, not everyone who has neuritis pains in the arms and shoulders gets them from sleep pressures.
Another condition that mostly affects housewives who are prone to arm pains as a result of excessive houseworks is called housewives neuritis. The symptoms include a widespread pain, worse at night, with pins and needles in the fingers. The arm and finger pains are frequently accompanied by widespread tenderness of the shoulder girdle.
When the sciatic nerve and its branches are affected, the pain extends from the area of the buttocks to the back of the thigh and leg.
When the fifth cranial nerve is affected, the ailment id known as trigeminal or facial neuralgia. The severe paroxysms usually strike one sife of the face, generally over the eyebrow or through the temple or cheek.
This conditions may be caused by any number of things such as cold, nutritional deficiencies, inflammation of one part of the body that also affects the nerves, or debility due to illness.
Nevertheless, herbal remedies through poultice, fomentation or tea could be taken to somehow alleviate the pain. Some reports said these remedies helps others free from these conditions.
Herbs for any form of neuritis include:
motherwort- this herb contains an abundance of calcium chloride which is necessary for the health of the muscles. It is usually prepared as tea.
Blue vervain- it is a tall perennial plant which grows along roadsides and in dry, grassy field.
In addition to using herb remedies, sufferers of any form of neuritis may include liberal amounts of unpolished brown rice in their diets which contains valuable vitamins and minerals among which are the major B vitamins, known as the anti-neuritic vitamins.While fomentations or poultices are applied to the upper part of the spine in line with the collar bone.

Elderberry - this herb provides vitamins A, B, and C. Elderin a glucoside is found in its flowers. Other constituents of the plant are pectin, starch, gum, fat, resin, grape sugar, and varius alkaline and earthy salts. Elder berries contain viburnic acid, a substance which induces perspiration..The juice extracted and added to wine aids in trigeminal neuralgia.
Twin leaf-prepared as decoction or tincture
Hops- used as poultice or fomentation
Apples- to be eaten raw for breakfast for awhile ,absolutely nothing else at this meal,not even fluids. It is best taken at an empty stomach
Plantain
Goutwort - it is prepared as tea, while the leaves are for poultice
Garlic milk- a decoction of garlic, made with milk and water.
nettle- a homeopathic medicine as a blood purifier.. Often prepared as tea.
pepper
