Before anything else I would like to clarify that I respect everyone's definition of success. Your definition might be contrary to what I am divulging in this article, but let us not make that a hindrance to a possible bond of friendship that we could make in this platform. Let us just choose to agree to disagree.
May this article be an instrument to challenge the readers to get on their feet and to go grab every opportunity that they will come across with in the crossroads of life. Opportunities that will serve as their springboard towards the pinnacle of success.
For me, success is finding the real purpose of your life and pursuing it with all your might.
Many people today are sidetracked by their family, fame, and fortune when it comes to defining success.
Family
We are already in the 20th century but still a lot of Filipinos are very traditional when it comes to rearing a child. This "I know better for what's best for you" line of most Filipino parents has crippled the future of many young people. Many of them end up pursuing things that are not really for them but for their parents. They thought that they are doing a noble sacrifice for their mom and dad only to find out in their old age that they are haunted by tons of what ifs. The sad part... they are already too old to pursue the things they really love. Those things are now bygones- lost dreams of the past.
Fame
Others spend their lifetime pursuing for recognition. They thought that being popular would put them on the pinnacle of success. But no, they end up being chocked by the demands of other people. They lost their liberty. They lost their privacy. They lost their identity. They ended up living for others. They gave up of who they really are. Fame drowned their real dreams into oblivion.
Fortune
This one is the most popular definition of success. Many people thought that amassing wealth is the real deal. They envisioned that living in luxury would satisfy their inner self. But yeah, a lot of them ended up suicidal instead. They found out in the end that money really can't buy love, loyalty, tranquility, and many more. They ended up realizing that wealth is like a thief who robbed their time and peace of mind.
What do you really want? Why are you here? What is the purpose of your existence?
Ponder upon those things. If you already have the answer, then by all means pursue it. The road towards it maybe tough and rocky. Your family may hinder you in achieving it. Win them over on your side. Prove to them that that thing is your life.
I tell you, only those who have the courage to pay the price of their dreams will someday enjoy the benefits of success. Do not let your dreams die. Do not let 'what ifs' fill your heart with regrets. The time is now. Go grab your dreams!
GOD BLESS.
