Cryptocurrency FAQ - The difference between a coin and a token
A lot of people treat the words "coin" and "token" as the same thing when they discuss cryptocurrencies or blockchain projects. But is there a difference between those two terms? The answer is **YES**! There is a subtle difference between them, and it's important to understand it if you are starting to learn about cryptocurrencies.
What's a simple definition of a *coin*?
A *coin* will have its own unique blockchain code.
The principle use case for cryptocurrency coins is payment.
How is a *token* different from a *coin*?
A *token* does not have its own unique blockchain. In fact, it is built on top of another blockchain.
Many tokens were designed to be used on top of the Ethereum blockchain, and intended to operate within the Ethereum ecosystem. Because of this, any transaction associated with these types of tokens (moving tokens to another wallet address, checking wallet balance, etc.) requires ETH to process it.

Daily users have dropped from 3,000 to just under 2,000 since I provided my feedback.
i did some more informal research today...many authors who i tracked have not monetized much over the past 7 days. there's one crypto author earning about $1-2 per post recently, but if rusty is tipping, I don't know who it is.
some articles are simply not being posted to communities. i'm trying to get my NBA Top Shot NFT article posted to "Sports" but the mod hasn't done anything, so no one can find it.
my theory is the bot is tipping articles that are not posted (it has happened to me twice), which doesn't make sense. once the article is tipped, it's possible the authors don't bother posting them to a community, so I can't find them.
the number of daily users also continues to drop, and dropped to under 2,000 yesterday. in september, there were over 3,000. so if there are fewer users, where are the tips going?

I decided to not include the lead cover image, because some individuals may not be comfortable with the nature of the image (blood).
@Cyprianj appears to have a medical background according to the profile, but there's no way for me to confirm or deny this claim. The topic is definitely unique, although I'm curious why the bot finds it interesting. Again, I'm not critiquing the topic or the article. I'm simply making observations. I can only speculate the bot wants more medical-related articles on read.cash by tipping it.

Conclusions
Despite the small sample size, I would like to point out some of my findings:
Longer articles tend to receive larger tips
Reader engagement has a small role, based on number of views/comments
The bot finds all sorts of topics to be tip-worthy
Please also be aware that past tipping behavior by the bot is no guarantee of similar tipping behavior in the future, as confirmed by the bot itself.
*I'm still in testing mode.*
Even though my creators think that I'm pretty good, sometimes *I still make mistakes*. My current accuracy is about 88%. So, I'll accidentally tip wrongly about every 7th article... It's not great, but I'm not discouraged, I'm still trying to learn! - **TheRandomRewarder**
My advice for prospective authors would be to write about what you are passionate about, and not worry about whether the bot will tip your content. I recently took a course about how to create your personal brand, and I think many of its teachings are relevant to how you want to be viewed as an author. Their latest venture combines video footage of this season's most electric plays with statistical data that fans will enjoy. The result are NBA licensed digital NFTs called Moments. Superstars and reserve players alike will have unique Moments that can be purchased, sold, or traded. The appeal of using blockchain is that authenticity, quantities, and ownership of each Moment are preserved. Collectors will eventually be able to use Moments which they own in a yet to be released mobile game. Dapper Labs is the company behind this project. Their Cryptokitties NFT almost "broke" the Ethereum network at the height of its popularity! What's happened over the last few weeks?
Unsold Early Adoptor packs have been burned
All the Early Adoptor packs that were not sold after September 30 were burned.
Packs can now remain sealed
When you purchase a pack of Moments, you can now keep them sealed. Sealed packs can be gifted, sold, or opened by yourself at a later date.
Flow tokens available for purchase
The Flow blockchain token (FLOW) is now available to be bought. Until October 2, 2020, CoinList is the only place to purchase them prior to their mainnet release.
Premium Pack Drop 2 & Western Conference Finals moments dropped on Oct 1, 2020
The Western Conference Finals packs dropped on October 1, along with Premium Pack Drop 2. At time of writing, there are 5,645 of 8,991 packs remaining, but all 1,492 Premium Pack Drop 2 packs sold out very quickly.
Nba Top Shot is now open to the public
This is the most notable development. The devs have opened access to the general public starting on Oct 1. It's not too late to buy the Moments that you love.
Buying guide - Which Moments are worth more?
Each Moment has a unique circulation number. There can be many copies of the moment, but each one has a unique number that it was minted with. The lower the number, the more valuable it is. For example, #1 out of 299 will hold more value than #100 out of 299.
Some Moments have been "burned", or taken out of circulation. So instead of a current circulation of 299 copies, there may only be 280 copies. Gaps will appear in the serial numbering when looking at the blockchain.
The higher the popularity of the player, the higher the value of their Moment compared to less popular players.
Moments are differentiated by three different editions:
Common
Rare
Legendary
Themed Moments in general have more value, as well as "retired" Moments which have been taken out of circulation.
Is there a market for these NFTs?
The market is still very new for these NFTs, but I'll let you judge for yourself by looking at Cryptoslam for a recent transaction for a Zion Williamson Moment:

If you are blogging, or reading this because you would like to start, her course has great content, and should springboard you to higher heights if you follow her recommendations. Here is Part 1 of what I have learned to date.

Krost explains that often you are your own best marketing tool, and that if used correctly, your own personal brand can be more effective than public relations departments, email marketing, influence marketing or Google ads. If you are an entrepreneur, you are often the best person to promote your own:

skillset
service
On the other hand, if you are just starting your career as an employee, investing in your personal brand can help your career by creating opportunities that you didn't think were possible.
The power of personal branding
Personal branding can become your most powerful marketing tool. In an increasingly digital world, individuals often look for a personal connection, according to Krost. Customers are likely to flock to companies with a face behind the brand. The social media shift can be observed by the increase in the prevalence and the impact of *influencer marketing*. She explains what makes it more effective in today's society.
(influencers) make an advertisement more personal through personal through storytelling from a real person, experiencing real life. These influencers have developed strong personal brands, with loyal followers, - **Chelsea Krost**
She also points out that smart business owners are encouraging their employees to invest in their own personal brands. The reason for this is because a company's employees are in the best position to discuss and share its product, and consumers are more likely to trust their recommendation than a big corporation. It's about peer approval.
Brand messages are reshared 24 times more frequenly when posted by employees versus the brand.
Leads developed through employee social marketing convert 7 times more frequently than other leads, - **Chelsea Krost**
What's interesting is that she suggests that better results are possible when personal brands are used *in tandem with business brands*.
Creating a good foundation for your personal brand
Creating a personal brand will take time, so don't expect immediate results. Remember that your personal brand is *the complete extension of who you are, and what you stand for*. It should also be used to differentiate you from your competition. To assist with the process of how to further develop your personal brand, she suggested that you look within yourself, and think about how to answer the following 4 questions:
1. What am I passionate about?
This will include things about you both personally, and professionally passionate about.
Krost recommends that a personal brand should be a blend of your current expertise, infused with personal stories and lessons learned from real-life experiences.
Being passionate will help you stay motivated, since it will be a long journey.
2. What am I good at?
Define the areas that you are strong at, but it's very important that you ***don't try to be something that you're not.***
Authenticity is key in personal branding. This leads perfectly into the next question.
3. What gives me credibility?
Krost shares a quote with the audience. *Brand yourself before others do*. What skills or knowledge have you acquired throughout your life experiences?

specialty skills
proven success stories
awards
You may not have documented credibility when you first start. This means that if there's something you want to be known for, you will need to do some work to obtain credibility. You will need to do the following on a topic to become a recognized authority:
be actively engaged
write
trend in discussions
attend conferences or summits on that topic
Clear credibility will create trust, an online following, more leads, and opportunities with more clients.
4. What are my personal brand goals?
Knowing this will help your personal brand mission and strategy be formed.
Krost lists the following as the most popular goals when creating a personal brand:
increase business brand awareness
generate leads
grow your professional network
leverage more media, press, or industry collaborations
find more opportunities, like public speaking or publishing deals
monetize your digital presence (*isn't that what* ***everyone*** *is doing on read.cash?*)😂
Be patient, and take the needed time to study and answer these 4 questions to help craft your personal brand.

Think outside the box to solve your problems - Part 2
In my first post about this series, I introduced the importance of thinking outside the box to solve problems. Strategy #1 of "*Doing the Opposite*" was introduced and applied to the fictional problem of overcrowded buses.
Although Strategy #1 often leads to interesting solutions, many of them create new and unexpected consequences. For this reason, I often like to apply another method to problem solving.
Strategy #2: If you can't fix it, then feature it
Imagine this problem: A prestigious hotel in Monte Carlo replaced their aging elevators with new ones. After the replacement, they received many complaints from their customers about long waits for elevators. The elevator manufacturer was brought to the hotel to investigate, but they discovered nothing wrong with the way the systems were operating. What can be done to solve this problem of long waits for the elevator?
There are three obvious solutions:
Replace the new elevators with a completely different model and system.
Upgrade the elevator propulsion system to give it more power, which in turn would move the elevator cars faster.
Install additional elevators throughout the hotel, so fewer customers would need to share the elevator cars.
All of these solutions were costly, and all of them treat the elevator as the source of the problem. Furthermore, obvious solution 3 also would create a consequence of losing valuable floor space to fit the additional elevators.
Now let's use **Strategy #2**, and simply *feature the elevator*. Instead of replacing, repairing, or adding new elevators, how can we turn the current elevator into **something valued by, or important for the customer**?

After mirrors were added, many customers became preoccupied with their appearance by constantly admiring their own reflections to ensure they looked perfect on their way out. The distraction often led to the customer losing track of time. Fewer customers complained about the elevator wait time. Here are my concerns about the planned RandomRewarder bot
I saw the banner notification for the first time today that the read.cash points system will be changed in a few days. A screen cap has been included below.

In short, authors will not be collecting any points to earn BCH after the new bot comes online (no date has been announced). The only way to earn BCH after this happens is to write interesting material, which the bot will (hopefully) be able to identify and tip appropriately.
There are some positives things that I like about this new system, and in theory, the quality of new articles on this platform should improve. However, I'm not sure the devs have thought the new system out fully. There will be a number of issues that will lead to many authors not being able to monetize on read.cash, which may not be fair.
My concerns about the new system
The article indicates that authors ****will not be able to earn**** from the new RandomRewarder bot as follows:

Articles about **points** and/or how to earn more;
*How to earn more? Write interesting articles! Avoid writing articles about read.cash itself. That's all you need to know.*
A number of authors write about their progress on read.cash to serve as inspiration to others, and as a source of pride about being part of the read.cash community. These types of articles can often be used to attract new users to this platform. Why should authors not be able to be supported by the bot for this goodwill?
By not tipping these types of articles, I believe read.cash's growth will begin to decline.

Articles about **faucets, scams, articles with referral links**; If you are trying to make a quick buck using read.cash users - you suck!
First of all Mr. Bot, your choice of language is not respectful on read.cash (per the rules and Terms and Conditions that I read), and you should act as a role model for everyone in this community. I do not condone your negative tone. I hope your programmers/coders can edit you to be more polite.
More importantly, there's a 100% chance that if you registered to create an account on read.cash, then you are interested in cryptocurrencies. A natural progression is for individuals to look for additional ways to supplement their income with crypto. Even I was very interested in crypto faucets at one point in my life.
I believe that it's important for read.cash users to have the ability to share information about good faucets with their audience. Yes, some people will abuse this trust, but an author's reputation will suffer if they post bad information.
A large population of read.cash users are currently from Nigeria and India, where the interest in, and the adoption of cryptocurrencies is increasing very quickly.

They already come to read.cash to learn about cryptocurrency. Why should the new system discourage posting good information about faucets that can help them with their lives?

Oh, I especially don't like when you talk about "RC fam".
Actually, I dislike it even when you call read.cash "RC" - are you too lazy to type 9 letters? It's read.cash (lowercase);
I'll repeat my concerns about your choice of words Mr. Bot which sounds condescending to many. There are many authors who may have a physical or learning disability, and it may be challenging for them to type "read.cash" all the time. I also do not condone your actions calling them out as lazy, and kindly ask that you be more sympathetic to your fellow community members, and follow community rules of being respectful.
As for not tipping these topics, my concerns are similar regarding the discouragement of posting on "how to earn more".

Oh, and If your article's **reading time** is less than **3 minutes**, you'll get about *10 times smaller tips* from me, than people who write longer articles. 3 minutes reading time is about 600 words.
I have many concerns about the recommended 600 word threshold.
Typing more words ****does not**** guarantee better content. I'd rather read something brief, but well written over material that is unnecessarily long-winded. @erikapmtn @reiko @Eirolfeam2 @Brook09
Many authors struggle to write, so they are more comfortable with shorter posts. I believe this new system punishes them. As a community, we should support and nurture our fellow authors instead.
I prefer to write brief content because my audience is quite busy, and I'm skilled at writing concise articles. I don't want to add meaningless and unnecessary words to meet a 600 word threshold. @Abno @Idotie
My audience also consumes my content often on their mobile devices. It's also harder to read long articles on a phone.
Including a 600 word threshold will take every author much longer to create content. On the flipside, authors who are skilled at writing long pieces will be able to create more content at a faster rate than others, thus ***gaining an advantage*** over others (including myself) for earning on this platform. Will read.cash be flooded with professional authors who will displace the average user?
There are aspiring poets on this platform. Their contributions are important to me, and make read.cash an inclusive community. This new system completely eliminates their ability able to earn. @blackween @Rancher1 @PrettyShare
Don't yell at me for that, just downvote articles that suck.
How will can we as a community prevent potential abuse of the downvote system? Will bad actors be able to weaponize the downvote process? They would by make good content appear bad by downvoting it, while trying to increase the likelihood their own content will appear popular.
New users in particular are impacted harder by receiving downvotes because they struggle to collect views in the first place. How can new users be protected from receiving downvotes unfairly?
Emotions and reactions within the read.cash community
From the reactions that I'm gauging in this community, I know that I'm not alone about how I feel, and many others have similar fears.
Hopefully the devs can also ***let us know the date*** when the planned changes will take effect.

Publishing Tips & Tricks - Part 1 - Choosing Photos
Adding photos to your articles is a great way to make your content jump out, and to make your work look professional. However when choosing your photos, please be aware that copyrighted images cannot be used on read.cash.
What is a copyrighted image?
In layman's terms, an image belongs to an individual, or to an organization, like a government or a company, when it is created. The image can be created by themselves, or by someone who they hired to do it. Because the image belongs to an individual or an organization, only they can decide how it is to be used and distributed.
read.cash explains why this matters:

The easiest way to get around this problem is to source images that are free to use. There are several websites where you can find a lot of them. Often, the copyright holders of those free to use images simply request to be acknowledged in your article if you use their photograph. In fact, you can see how I've done it throughout this article!
My favorite website where I find most of the free photos that I like is Unsplash. https://unsplash.com/

Some of the photos from this site are stunningly beautiful. You can enter a word to search for a specific image. I used "*flowers*" in the search box, and found many photos of flowers, including the one below.

This man's life should be turned into an inspirational movie
There are times in your life when you meet or read about individuals who are real-life heroes. This man's story not only broke my heart, but also inspired me to act more selflessly. He made a lasting impact on countless people who he touched throughout his life, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to share it with you.
Dr. James “Charlie” Mahoney worked in the intensive care unit at the **SUNY Downstate Medical Center** in New York for nearly four decades. His lengthy career saw him care for patients through the HIV/AIDS epidemic, through 9/11, through the swine flu and he felt like it was finally time to take it easy. In fact, he was planning his retirement during a trip he took with his family in January, but decided to postpone it when COVID-19 hit New York. He refused to abandon his community in their time of need. Sadly, he never got the chance to retire because he contracted the virus while treating patients in mid-April. Dr. Mahoney passed away on April 27, 2020 at age 62. https://www.downstate.edu/

His friend, colleague and his boss, Dr. Robert Foronjy described the last few months of his life with vivid detail.
He was attending the ICU when the first wave hit us, and he worked tirelessly. He would work day. He would work night. I know he was exhausted, but I know he took great pride in what he was doing and felt a tremendous sense of satisfaction out of helping the community at such a time of need, - **Dr. Robert Foronjy**

Money and influence alone would not lead to the legacy that Dr. James Mahoney achieved by spending his entire adult life helping others. His legacy is indicative of the impact he left on his patients, co-workers, friends, family, and community. I hope his blessed story inspires others to act selflessly like him to help anyone, and everyone.
This also is an opportunity for all of us to take a step back, and to reflect on our own lives. How would you like to be remembered by future generations? I think it was best said in a song that came to mind.

Think outside the box to solve your problems - Part 1
When you face a difficult problem, it's always nice to be reminded that sometimes you should try to think outside the box for a solution. But what does that mean?
Often people are so wrapped up in the problem, that they only study the obvious details. It's very similar to looking outside through a window. You will only be able to *see a fraction of the entire view*.
However, when you try to look at the bigger picture, more details often present themselves, and you will discover more paths leading to a solution. This is what happens when you step outside to look at the entire beautiful view, instead of staying inside to look through the window.
There are several strategies you can use when you try to think outside the box, and today I'll introduce the first one.
Strategy #1: Do the opposite
Imagine this problem: A network of city buses that is always overcapacity, and the buses are often full. Many passengers complain there is not enough room for them, and they cannot even get onto the bus. What can be done to solve this problem of overcrowding?
There are two obvious solutions:
Replace the fleet of buses with larger buses that can seat more passengers
Buy more buses so they arrive at bus stops more frequently
Both of these solutions lead to more passengers getting onto a bus.
Now let's use **Strategy #1**, and *do the opposite*. Instead of getting *more* passengers onto the bus, let's try to get **fewer** passengers to get onto the bus. How can we achieve that?
Outside the box solution: Increase bus fare!
This is a new way to solve the problem of overcrowding! But does it create other problems? Probably, but if you keep thinking outside the box, more ideas will flow, and your final solution might be something unexpected!

Admittedly, those are all nice things to have, but I discovered a story about an American man who made a lasting impact on countless people who he touched in his life. His story is inspirational, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to share it with you.
Dr. James “Charlie” Mahoney worked in the intensive care unit at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York for nearly four decades. His lengthy career saw him care for patients through the HIV/AIDS epidemic, through 9/11, through the swine flu and he felt like it was finally time to take it easy. In fact, he was planning his retirement during a trip he took with his family in January, but decided to postpone it when COVID-19 hit New York. He refused to abandon his community in their time of need. Sadly, he never got the chance to retire because he contracted the virus while treating patients in mid-April. Here are 3 things that you should know about him.
**Strong work ethic**
It's incredible for me to find out that Dr. Mahoney not only worked his regular shift, but also worked night shifts at Kings County Hospital Center, across the street from SUNY. Sometimes he even slept there according to his brother, Melvin, who is a doctor himself.
His friend, colleague and his boss, Dr. Robert Foronjy described the last few months of his life with vivid detail.
He was attending the ICU when the first wave hit us, and he worked tirelessly. He would work day. He would work night. I know he was exhausted, but I know he took great pride in what he was doing and felt a tremendous sense of satisfaction out of helping the community at such a time of need, - **Dr. Robert Foronjy**
**Incredible dedication to his community**
He knew about the increased risk of him contracting the virus resulting from his advanced age, but he was undeterred. SUNY Downstate, a largely underfunded state-run hospital, serves low-income, minority neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Dr. Mahoney was passionate about serving his community. He declined many better-paying opportunities to work in private hospitals according to his sister, Saundra Chisholm.

**The legacy he leaves behind**
Mahoney was known for mentoring young doctors, giving his personal cellphone number to his patients, and befriending everyone in the hospital, from his boss to the janitors and gift shop cashiers.
He was a hero, who made an enormous impact in his community. Even in death, his work continues to have an impact on medicine because of the years he spent training and mentoring up-and-coming doctors according to Dr. Foronjy.

Money and influence alone would not lead to the legacy that Dr. James Mahoney achieved by spending his entire adult life helping others. His legacy is indicative of the success he achieved. I hope his blessed story inspires others to act selflessly like him to achieve their own success.
This also is an opportunity for all of us to take a step back, and to reflect on our own lives. How would you like to be remembered by future generations? I think it was best said in a song that came to mind.

Why Tether's checkered past poses a risk to the DeFi ecosystem
Tether's market capitalization has surged in the past few months from $5 billion to $10 billion because of the recent DeFi expansion, and the proliferation of decentralized exchanges/swapping protocols, such as Uniswap. Despite its lofty status as the third-highest valued coin on coinmarketcap.com at time of writing, I have never owned any. What is Tether?
Tether (USDT) is a cryptocurrency that was created in 2014. Because market prices for many cryptocurrencies have fluctuated wildly in the past, there are many use cases for stablecoins. Most obviously, it just makes buying things easy for the consumer if commodities can be priced with some semblance of stability. Tether tokens are issued by Tether Limited:

**What is Tether's relationship with Bitfinex?**
From my research, I have learned the crypto exchange Bitfinex and Tether Limited are both headquartered in Hong Kong, both registered in the British Virgin Islands, and are both owned by iFinex Incorporated. Not only are the two entities owned by the same individual(s), they also have the same CEO, Jan Ludovicus van der Velde. Based on my understanding of the hierarchy, it appears Mr. van der Velde is in a position where he has a conflict of interest. **Allegations of fraud**
Currently, Tether and Bitfinex, are in the middle of a fraud investigation led by the New York Attorney General’s office over allegations that they conspired to cover up $850 million dollars of losses in Bitfinex’s finances. https://decrypt.co/14683/new-york-ag-expands-on-accusations-against-tether-bitfinex
Those transactions treat Tether’s cash reserves as Bitfinex’s corporate slush fund, and are being used to hide Bitfinex’s massive, undisclosed losses and inability to handle customer withdrawals, - **New York Attorney General Letitia James**
**Tether's finances face scrutiny**
Observers in the crypto community have been suspicious of Tether's finances for several years. It started when Tether itself was hit by a $31 million hack in November 2017. This ***contradicts*** statements by Tether made not long ago that it was originally designed to always be worth $1.00, maintaining $1.00 in reserves for each Tether issued.

It always pays to read the fine print! Tether Limited is allowed to redeem Tether Tokens ***in-kind***, which means even if you purchased the Tokens with US Dollars, Tether Limited can buy them back with Yen, or with something else they feel is equivalent.
**Is Tether hiding something?**
If Tether was confident that its finances are in good order, then they would be easily step out from under their cloud of suspicion by simply allowing an independent 3rd party to audit their books. Although other stablecoins, such as USD Coin (USDC) issued by Coinbase, or Gemini Dollar (GUSD) issued by Gemini have released their own audit results, this has never happened with Tether. **Allegations that Tether was used to manipulate Bitcoin's market price**
Professors John Griffin and Amin Shams, of the University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Finance, claimed there was a link between the issuance of Tether and Bitcoin’s prices during the 2017 price increases. How does Tether pose a risk to DeFi?

It's important to remember that a common strategy in the DeFi world is to use stablecoins as collateral when borrowing crypto. This is because their low price volatility will help to mitigate the risk of liquidation in the event your collateral rapidly loses its value.

We can see that Compound Finance allows customers to both lend Tether, or to provide Tether as collateral when borrowing.
Automated market maker Curve disclosed in June that it was seeing users depositing USDC as collateral to borrow USDT and using that borrowed USDT as a deposit for borrowing the USDC back again. Remember the investigation by the New York Attorney General's office? What would happen if Bitfinex and Tether were found to be guilty of fraud? Would everyone try to sell their Tether Tokens all at once? Would customers be able to get their fiat money back, or would they be forced to take something in-kind? More importantly, if the value of Tether was to drop rapidly, there's a chance every Tether collateral position would be liquidated all at once. What would happen to the Defi ecosystem then?
Final thoughts
It appears that Tether's legal problems are only beginning. Although the outcome of the investigation will not be finalized for some time, are you willing to take the risk to hold Tether Tokens in the interim? If only Tether could do away with all its controversy, it could be a well respected stablecoin, like DAI. Your password is often the first line of defense that is relied upon to protect your personal data. Unfortunately, it's also something that is not taken seriously by most people.
Here's some simple advice on how to create a strong password from an expert.
**Who is Edward Snowden?**
In 2013, Edward Snowden became one of the most famous whistleblowers in history. He revealed thousands of classified documents to journalists, who in turn exposed the widespread, covert, and illegal collection of personal information by the NSA. includes upper and lower case letters
includes numbers
includes a special character
My suggestion for improvement would be to include more than one special character to make your pass-phrase that much more difficult to crack.
