Pack 'em Bags
The whole kingdom was busy and the air was tense. It was an expected result after the king's declaration of war. Everyone was feeling uneasy and the soldiers could feel their guts spilling out of their mouths. The kingdom hasn't gone to war for some decades now and almost all of their combat power are young ones without really any experience in warfare.
Princess Elexandria was in her chambers with Mina during all the commotion. She was informed about her father's declaration and she was also surprised about it. She wasn't really on top of their kingdom's affairs but she haven't heard any news about any threats of war or anything like that. It was rather peaceful in their lands, aside from the incident from a couple of days ago.
"I must fulfill my duty as the crown princess. I shall pick up the sword if it need be and lead my people on the battlefield," she said as she walked up toward the window and looked down at the soldiers doing some combat exercises.
"That's such a noble cause Princess, but it's something really wasteful. Pardon my insolence, but I know that you know that you're not that type." Mina said while bowing her head.
There was a knock on the door while they were talking. Mina opened it and the presence of the King was announced, and following the formal announcement her father came in. Everyone bowed to the king including Elexandria.
"Princess. We shall talk." the King spoke.
He turned to his entourage and they all withdrew and closed the doors behind them. Mina was also on her way out but she was stopped by the King himself so she stayed in one corner of the room.
"Elexandria, listen to me. You are the sole heiress to the throne and you are the only rightful successor. We are at war and it was something that we aren't prepared for. I must protect the royal bloodline if it's the last thing I would do."
"Your Majesty. Let me assist in any way I can." Elexandria bowed but she stood straight when her father tapped her shoulder.
"No Elex, it is not your time yet. All you need to do is to stay alive. And in time, you shall see to it that you will continue to look over our people. I will keep you safe." he said and he embraced her.
Elexandria was shocked, it was the first time that her father showed her such affection. His warmth and his shaking hands told her that the immense threat was real and he was genuinely scared for her.
"Father..." she let out before tearing up.
"You are to leave the palace right away and go as far as you can. As farther away from here as possible."
"But father, I will stay by your side."
"No! You will not. This is my last order to you as Your king."
The King then opened the door and a man emerged from it.
"He will take care of you and protect you with his life." the king said.
The princess wiped the tears from her eyes and was shocked when she saw who the person was.
"I...it's you!" she gasped.
"Waaah! It's the guy who saved us!"
The king looks at them one after the other in utter confusion.
"Do you already know each other?" he asked.
"He.. he..."
"I was passing by earlier looking for the loo, your Majesty. They helped me." the guy explained.
"But what do you mean saved you...Mina?"
"Ah...hmmm... I mean... the Princess was kinda bored and he saved us from it by showing him the palace." she was trying to bite her tongue because she was lying. The princess was trying to hold back her laughter.
"Oh, then this will be easier. You are to go with him Elexendria. Your destination is King Arthur's kingdom Etheria. You will be safe there."
"But father."
"No buts. Mina, you'll go with her. You shall pack your thing tonight." the king commanded.
"It is my pleasure, your Majesty." Mina replied.
"We're leaving at the strike of midnight." the guy said.
The King retreated and left the room after hugging Elexandria once more. The guy then stood in a corner of the room and was just standing still while Mina brought out some bags for the Princess' wardrobe.
"What are you doing? You don't need all those bags. We are traveling light, and most times, we'll be on foot. Just bring a single bag for both of you. We're not going out on a social call, we are trying to hide." he sternly complained.
"But..."
"It's alright Mina. We can adjust."
"Should I help you pack? We don't have much time."
