Beauty and the Beast is a 1991 American animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation, which premiered at the Hollywood El Capitan Theater on November 13 of that year. The film by producer Don Hank, directed by Gary Trusdale and Kirk Wise, written by Linda Wolverton, is actually a film adaptation of the French fairy tale Beauty and the Beast with elements of the feature film of the same name. of 1947. In the English version of the film, the name of the French writer Jean-Marie Leprence de Beaumont does not appear, while in the French version she is signed as the author of the fairy tale.

This is also the thirtieth film from the collection of Walt Disney classics. It is the first of only two animated films to ever be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture category.

The music for the film was composed by Alan Menken and Howard Eliot Ashman, a team of composers who also wrote the music for Disney's Little Mermaid. With revenue of $ 145,000,000 in the United States and Canada and over $ 403,000,000 in the rest of the world, Beauty and the Beast became the most successful animated adaptation to date. In 1994, the cartoon was adapted into a theatrical play, which had been performed 5,464 times by 2007. This made this musical one of the seven longest-running pieces on Broadway. The series Sing Me a Story with Bell was soon filmed and aired over four seasons.
