Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 30:19-24

We have been hearing about the jealousy and competition of the sisters for weeks now. They both married Jacob and there is much fighting and envy regarding who has had more kids and who gets to sleep with Jacob. But now, we have the birth of the eleventh son.

With Joseph's birth, we see the beginning of an amazing story

that will mimic what is in store for us now in the twenty first source

century and beyond. Joseph's name means to add or do again. With this child, God is saying that he will do this again.

What do I mean by that?

As we will see in the coming weeks, the story of Joseph shows a man who ins young but righteous, loved by his father. He knows a bit too much about the future and is ridiculed and hated for that (his dreams), suffers and loses his life for it (sold into slavery), is transformed into the most powerful being on earth with only one person more powerful than him, (he runs Egypt), and ends up being the salvation of all nations (saving them from starvation). He is an archetype of Yeshua, who is doing all of those things but on a universal scale.

He will not be under pharaoh as Joseph was, but under YHVH and salvation he offers is eternal!

Today's reading

English

And Leah conceived again, and she bore Jacob a sixth son. Then Leah said, "God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons." So she called his name Zebulun. Afterward she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.

Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb. She conceived and bore a son and said, "God has taken away my reproach." And she called his name Joseph,' saying, "May YHVH add to me another son!"
