July 12,2022

We went to the Supermarket for our regular market day for our little store. I was surprised by the big price increase of some basic commodities such as canned goods, milk , juice, sugar , cooking oil , shampoo and other stuff , resulting to a lesser purchased items. Sigh.

Things are getting harder each day but we can't stop living as i usually say. We have to face realities and do something to continue living and survive the inflation. Giving up is not an option nor sulking and ranting wont do anything either. It would just give you headache and stress you out .

I want to focus on the things that i can do and don't want to dwell on things that i don't have control with. Finding solution to the problem rather than thinking negativity that could give me wrinkles , hahaha! I feel pretty today and i don't want to ruin such feeling. lol!

Anyway may i ask you guys , do you have savings? Or are you starting to keep some ? For building your dream house , vacation , for your retirement perhaps? Or just atleast have something to pull in case of emergency and unexpected event that needs immediate cash?

  • At present , i do have a little and we are trying hard and doing our best to atleast save even little amount. Our savings was almost drained to zero due to pandemic but it truly helped us to survive. We uttered such " buti na lang kahit paano may savings tayo para magamit sa ganitong sitwasyon" ( good thing we have savings to pull in times like this) Having said that here's why..

Dillemas

During the pandemic , my husband were one of those who lost his job coz he's doing field works . He went home from the city to our place during the early months of pandemic having only his salary for the month.

We need to think of ways to survive. Aside from protecting ourselves from getting the virus of course we have to protect our stomach too from starving. Without his regular salary , how are we going to get through our day to day expenses from food to continuos monthly bills.

I used to Tutor kids prior to pandemic. I was handling three kids giving me extra income aside from the little store that i run. But due to pandemic i had to stop. We only have the store left to work on to , to generate income. And as time goes by our cash on hand was literally fading away.

Savings saved us

We are thinking of other stuff to sell but we need capital. So after some discussion and exchanging opinions on what to do. We decided to use some of our savings for the business that we are going to venture. Crossing our fingers and praying hard for our plan for survival to work .

We sell Ukay Clothes, Cooked food , desserts, perfume and alcohol online. We bought a motorcycle to be use for delivery of our goods to our customer. Then , later on we bought a second hand sidecar for our motorcycle . We are using the trike for deliveries and for purchasing items and different goods to sell.

Oh! how tired and busy we are all day during those times. We did took a big risk to use our little savings . Good thing it worked. Hardwork paid off.

My version of Graham de Leche that was one of our bestseller dessert during the pandemic.

For the second time

We were able to survive the pandemic and little by little , we were able to put back the savings we used to start our little business. Though i'm telling you , it was really exhausting . Sleep was so precious to us we are lucky to have 4-6 hours of it on random days. No day offs. Grind , grind and grind and save as much as we can. Earnings are not much compare if he's still working but we have to continue with it.

It was July last year that we got sick of covid-19. Me my husband and our two kids. Once again we are saved by our savings. High cost of medicines for treatment and being quarantined for one and a half month without income almost drained our savings. But without it , i guess were doom .

For the third Time

My niece was not admitted in the State University in our place and won't be an " Iskolar ng Bayan" anymore. So we have no choice but to enroll her to a private University. I opened her an account prior to pandemic and now her savings is a big help for her upcoming enrollment this week. For the third time " Savings do save us from further mess. We withdrawn some of her savings in Cebuana a few days ago.

Final thoughts

Life as i said is really hard this days but it will be harder if we have no back up plan, no savings to pull out in case of unexpected things that may occur in our life.

I understand it's also hard to save up at present days due to high cost of living but we must try harder. Setting aside our wants and try to live with the basic can do a lot for us to save.

I'm teaching our kids too to save . Portions of my eldest cash gift during Christmas or special occasion such as her birthday was deposited in her account. My youngest also have his coinbank. He's fond of getting coins and bills in our store and put it inside his "Alkansya" or coin bank, ahaha!

Things are getting rough this days so let's start to save so we could enjoy life tomorrow with security and happiness.

Thank you all for the read. Time check 11:36 pm have a goodnight fellows.

Saving for the rainy day is really good, I remember the time when I stranded and I had to remember my savings which helped me that period of time.

Yes dear , it's a big help instead of borrowing or apply for a loan that would just add up to our stress later having our own savings is much better.

No, I don't have! Though, I get to keep my job but still I'm broke. Living from paycheck to paycheck. Hoping that situation wouldn't get worse but will soon alleviate. Still crossing my fingers. hahaha! True, savings is something we all need at troubled times but right now, im getting by relying on His grace!

I know how hard it is to do such nowadays but a 10 peso coin a day as a start will help. You'll be surprised after some time that it's accumulating. 10php each day for a year and you'll have 3650php ,double it up for the 2nd year and make it 20 each day, and so on and so forth. Something like that. Deposit it in the bank after 6 mos or after a year pero dapat yung passbook lang walang ATM para hindi madali iwithdraw hehe!

Well, I really do understand the concept. I did that a long time ago. There are really a lot of mitigating circumstances but I'm just happy because I may not have savings and living from paycheck to paycheck, we're all good in terms of everything. We no longer worry about food and everything else. Currently we just have enough but hoping the days will soon be covered as we are trying to address this. So i really dont have to worry about food in the next 6 months or so. Right now, savings is the least of our worries. Food is top 1 considering everything is up, I do worry our supplies wont be able to hold up long. But... we are good. Medical expenses/hospitalization is covered too, so... as long as it is not COVID, we will be ok. School, my sons are not scholars but they prefer public school and dont mind the rest, i'm also good. I know, I can't have everything on my plate. I'm just lucky all is good.

Good for you my dear. Sabi nga 6 months na alam mong may sure na kakainin at panggastos ka is good enough . Yes hoping an additional 6 months more be covered at ma stabilize na ang price ng mga bilihin. Good day to you.
