VENEZUELA, it has a woman's name
When the main topic is Venezuela, my head starts to go round and round from one side to the other, not knowing where to start. Being Venezuelan fills me with pride and an enormous satisfaction that makes my breasts swell with glory at the mere mention of its name.
Venezuela has a woman's name and for years it was the beautiful land that caused the envy of the whole continent. Many wanted to come and visit the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean and eat its varied gastronomy.
To talk about my beloved country I first have to talk about the arepa; a self-respecting Venezuelan eats arepas every day or as they say in Creole "every child born in this country comes with an arepa under his arm". Corn arepas are the richest thing in the world, that's why the Europeans who arrived in these lands more than 500 years ago couldn't get rid of corn, no matter how much wheat they brought us, they couldn't change our customs and roots.
I like its beaches, they are very beautiful, its waters are like the blue of the sky and when you touch them they are warm. The breeze that blows makes our spirits happy and the white sand relaxes our bodies. To go to a beach in my country is to have fun, to relax, to be distracted, to enjoy yourself from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. The sunsets are magical and transmit a lot of peace.
And if we are talking about peace, what can I say about its people, how friendly and cordial they can be, not only with those of us who live here but also with those who visit us from abroad. They say that the people of Venezuela are very cheerful and I definitely agree with that. In this country everything is rumba-flavour.
But now that I touch on the subject of festivities, I have to tell you that Venezuela is the country with the most national holidays and commemorative celebrations in the world. For example, we recently celebrated the day of the worker, then we celebrated the cross of May, we are in the month of mothers and so on every day.
Of course, to brighten up all these celebrations we need good music, so I can name our traditional music, made up of llanero folklore, harp, cuatro and maracas.
From here we have exported good musicians like Ricardo Montaner, El puma José Luis Rodríguez, the salsa singer Oscar de León and now the more recent and famous Chino y Nacho carrying the flag high.
Unfortunately, just as Venezuela has good things, we also have bad things. For some years now we have been going through a bad economy that has left us stagnant and submerged in complete abandonment. Public services are conspicuous by their absence and we all have to invent something every day in order to survive. It all started with the electricity, and people bought power plants, then the internet and the people solved the problem by contacting private companies that cost a lot more money. In the same way we can say about water, which is a serious problem that has not yet been solved, on the contrary, the problem has worsened, buying water costs an arm and a leg, as a tanker truck charges up to 50 dollars and here what we earn is 5 dollars a month. Not to mention the broken streets or the crime that kills and kidnaps every day in the streets and neighbourhoods of this country.
The first thing all Venezuelans want to do to change our lives would be to go to the polls to change this political model that is suffocating us more and more every day. Over the years we have changed our good habit of helping our neighbour for "how much peace there is", so we must change that again at home and we have to accustom our children to be better human beings, collaborators, respectful, I contribute my bit by teaching my children in this way.
To be better citizens, if we want for example a clean city, the best thing to do is not to throw rubbish in the street, if we want to be respected, respect and so on, we can become better and better people.
In the midst of desperation and feeling like failures many have had to migrate to other foreign lands in search of opportunities, but among those who have left have fallen bad people, for example crime has also migrated and has gone in search of places to continue committing their misdeeds, but many are misinterpreting the situation, they are generalising and throwing all Venezuelan citizens in the same bag, I tell you sincerely that this is not the way things are here the good ones are more and not for a few we should all pay. As the other saying goes, we should not pay the just for sinners.
This is an erroneous belief that is spreading throughout the world and terrible things are happening to my fellow countrymen and women, especially in countries like Ecuador and Peru where they have been brutally murdered.
Venezuela is known in the world for more good things than bad, we have the Catatumbo Lightning, which flashes its lights almost 300 days a year, that happens in the city of Maracaibo in the state of Zulia. Many scientists have studied this phenomenon without being able to obtain a conclusive answer as to why this phenomenon happens.
We also have the highest waterfall in the world, with more than 970 meters, this is in the Angel Falls located in the Gran Sabana Park.
We have been known and recognised by the world not only for our oil but also for the cocoa that is produced here, worthy of export.
In the State of Merida, an ice cream parlour has been established that for many years has been recognised for its great variety of flavours, more than 900 flavours, I have had the opportunity to eat them and they really are crazy. Some time ago they entered the Guinness Book of Records for their extraordinary and consecutive work, where not only their daily visitors but also the foreigners who visit such a beautiful city enjoy themselves.
But what I like most as a woman to talk about is that we are recognized as the country with the most beautiful women in the world, at this moment it comes to my mind when in a Miss Universe the Venezuelan Dayana Mendoza gives the crown to her fellow countrywoman Estefania Fernandez. Nobody could believe that this was happening, but it has been like that constantly, triumphs and triumphs in all the beauty pageants where Venezuela attends.
Because of this, Venezuela has once again written its name on the Guinness World Records page with the most Miss Universe and Miss World queens. That fills me with great pride.
