Half impulsive, half compulsive
I have mentioned on one of my recent articles that I waa not able to save money and that is really not good. I wanted to have a debt free life but here I am, swiping my way into the pool of debts.
When I found out that I was photophobic, I immediately wanted to buy some glasses. Instead of looking for more affordable ones, I opted for what caught my eyes. I can say that because of lack of time, I just went to 1 mall and 1 optical shop. However, I did not hesitate on choosing a branded frame. I have no experience on wearing glasses even before but based from what I have observed with my brother, he always chooses a branded frame that lasts for years. I do not know if it is the case with affordable frames but it was the start of being an unwise spender.
After that, I made some more purchases for the house and we can add a few more online purchases and a lot of food trippings. I know that I am going to be stressed out when I receive my statement of accounts. As of typing this, I remembered 1 adulting basic rule from former senator of the Philippines, Chiz Escudero.
Anything that's on sale. If you don't need it, it's expensive. — Chiz Escudero
Agree or disagree? I guess some of us will say that we need some of those sale items. What was the last item that you pruchased that was on sale? Did you really need it or you just wanted it? For me, I got my glasses on sale and we even asked for a discount though it was still expensive. LOL. I can say that I needed that and it really helped me during these times. Imagine that I do not need to close my eyes whever I would step out of the house when it is too bright outside.
I am thinking about the last time that I bought a sale item that I do not need but I cannot think of any. 2 years ago I know I bought some formal tops and slacks on sale that I was suppose to use for job interview and if I were to start working again. Sadly, I was not able to wear them because of the pandemic. I am not sure if those clothes still fit me as I have gained some fats and when I will get to wear them but I know that I have to wear them. It will be hard to sell them because those are a big sizes. We have experienced selling Carousell and garage sale but the usual comments of the people was that our clothes were too big for them. LOL. How much more if it was now?
Other than the glasses and some items for our house, I also bought some clothes that I can wear when I am at the store since almost all of my clothes does not fit me already. Then I am now back to fops tripping just like how I was when I was working before. I have mentioned that there is a Japanese restaurant and a coffee shop beside us and I would eat there sometimes. Of course I would also be buying food for the staffs because I do not want that I would be the only one eating food taken from the restaurant. When I would be craving for Jollibee or McDonald's, I would also be treating the whole team.
But now that I feel like I have been spending a lot, I am trying to control myself to stop splurging on foods and other things. I have to clear my debt and I need to save. I should be reminding myself about my payables. How about you? Are you an impulsive or a compulsive buyer? How do you set your mind to not go over the budget? Do you set a limit when purchasing items? Before I have already been a compulsive buyer especially when doing the groceries. I would only buy what is on the list and it is really a great technique. And another one is that I would only bring an exact money so if I were to go beyond the budget, I would be removing some of the items on the list that I think is not that necessary. I really do not want to spend too much on unimportant things and I should better start focusing on my goals. But honestly, I am thinking of some gadgets as of this moment. LOL. I guess I have to sleep so I would not be thinking about those.

P.S. lead image is a photo of the glasses displayed on the optical shop when I was choosing a frame.
Going to the grocery is my weakness. Dining out is my weakness lol! However, I can say that avoiding things on sale is my strength. I don't go buying stuff whenever there are sale promotions even in Shopee except those that are necessary. I have not encountered that Mr. Escudero said but what I do remember is that when things are on sale, some are not really on sale literally. Those are just marketing ideas to catch the attention of consumers. Also, things that are marked down, the marked down price is the real value of the products and maybe even less. If these companies can mark down these products, why can't they do it before?
