The Bosnian Pyramid Theory is a pseudo-archaeological theory that assumes that Visočica Hill and two other nearby hills around Visoko in Bosnia and Herzegovina are actually giant human-built pyramids between 12,000 and 500 BC. Its author is the entrepreneur and self-proclaimed researcher Semir Osmanagić. Scientific facts and authentic archaeological and geological research suggest that the hill was shaped exclusively by geological mechanisms. Furthermore, Osmanagić's project is not supported by the professional community.
Scientific research at the site shows that the pyramids do not exist. In a public statement in 2006, the European Association of Archaeologists also criticized the Bosnian authorities, who supported and funded the pyramid theory: "This plot is a cruel fraud against the unknown public and has no place in the world of true science.
The 213 meter high hill Visočica, on which the old town of Visoki used to stand, is approximately in the shape of a pyramid. Osmanagic's excavations revealed the geological structure he claims is a paved entrance plane with tunnels, as well as stone blocks and ancient concrete that he believes once covered the building. An international team of experts from Australia, Ireland, Scotland and Slovenia took part in the excavations. excavations began in April 2006.
On 18 June 2016, it was announced that the Archaeological Park of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun would be inaugurated with a concert by Goran Karan. In the period from 2008 to 2018, six international ICBP conferences were held (2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018) in Sarajevo and Visoko, where works and research focused on new discoveries and the importance of further exploration of the pyramids in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
