Summer Job Experience | Unpleasant Experience
If you have experienced working before or have help in your family business, you know how hard it is to earn money. In this blog, I will share with you all my Summer Job Experience in the year 2019.
I was on a four months vacation at that time since the classes for college students have been moved to August which originally starts in June. Since I wasn't doing much that time, my Mom signed me up for a summer job opening. At first, I didn't want to because I'm feeling lazy and I wanted to enjoy my last days of summer with friends.
I wasn't home the night before the first day of work, I was at my friend's house and we had our sleepover. It was also the time where we would always have our sleepovers. I didn't know that the morning after our sleepover was the first day of work. Thanks to my friend who knew because our former classmate was also enlisted to work. I left my friend's house rushing to get home and got dressed, I wasn't even able to take a bath because I was already late. I know it was a lame start for work not having to take a shower but at least I was able to wash my face and brush my teeth. Hahaha.
I arrived at the municipal hall just in time before the appointment started. I had my summer job in the office of the Municipal Mayor together with 3 co-workers. For me, it was a lame summer job because we didn't get to do much. We would just sit down their for hours waiting for the time to go home. But I had a good time together with my co-workers and to the staffs working at the mayor's office. We really got closed with them and they even tell us not to sweep the floor when we're doing it because there are staff that are responsible for cleaning the office.
Since there wasn't so much work, we would help in small ways. Like photocopying documents, doing errands for the staff like going to other offices, washing the dishes, checking the motorcycle plates, and etc. The chores can be done by a single worker and considering that we are four in there, it was so much easier.
The office staff were so nice to us. They would treat us with some food and we were even invited to go to our Boss's house to eat. We were included in every occasion that there is. And I met so many people that have become my friends. I met Ate Ethel who is very nice to us and up until now, we are still friends. She treated us merienda and she would always treat us with snacks outside the office.
Aside from the minimal work, our work experience is conventionally good because of the people we are working with. It was the best work experience I had and I wanted to do it again but with the same people. There I realize that it is so hard to find money. It was tiring even if I am just sitting all day. Our salary that time was only around four thousand pesos and for me, it is just a small amount considering the inflation rates.
What I didn't like about work was when I got harassed by my co-worker. As a gay person, it is not new to me being joked around by other guy being touchy. But that time I was uncomfortable already and I felt like I was sexually harassed. I let it slip since he was my friend and our work was almost finished. What I didn't like about it was he didn't respect me.
Martha or Tata as I call her is my work besty. We got close because we have a mutual friend who was my classmate during junior high school and her classmate during senior high school. Every afternoon when work was finished, we would walk to the market. I would ride a tricycle there and she would go directly to their food stall in the mall. We really got to know each other, she even gave me a metal straw as a gift for my birthday and we still talk until now.
Tata is an arki student who is very much busy, we still have a common denominator. My friend is her classmate now in college and sometimes I would just ask for updates about her from my friend and so do her.
After our summer job ended, we decided to have an outing --- the office of the municipal Mayor staff and us. It was so good! I was so happy at that time because we didn't feel like we were out of place. They were very inclusive enough to make us comfortable. For me, it is definitely one for the books!
And so I realized, there is no difficult task when you have co-workers who are very cooperative. There is no toxic environment if there is no toxic worker. Definitely the best 20 working days of my life!

As much as we want to have a good relationship with others, there will always be those who cause trouble and I say because of plain ignorance. Having said that, it's good to know that overall, your summer job was a pleasant one.
