How to Detect High-Tech Plagiarism

Cyber citizens are so happy with artificial intelligence-driven chatbots.

The tech titans are into adopting artificial intelligence (AI) in some way or the other. Microsoft has formed a partnership with OPenAI on its ChatGPT project. Google is on its way with its AI project Bard. There is surely a clash between the AI engines. No single project can claim they are superior.

The world of education and writing is under real threat from AI tools.

• People are busy testing ChatGPT, the AI-driven super writer of anything literally on any subject. ChatGPT can quickly create essays on any random real-world topic in different languages!

ChatGPT can also provide very quick solutions on programming and various tech and nontech subjects!

• ChapGPT can't search the Internet database in real time, but it can utilize the huge offline data already stored in its servers. Human users from around the globe are providing the ChatGPT project with the essential test run and learning free of cost!

Now, the world of education is under real threat because students are voratiously utilizing the facility of ChatGPT to do their homework and assignments. That includes writing short essays and solving scientific problems! In simple words, Noam Chomsky has aptly termed it "high-tech plagiarism."

Researchers are also developing software applications to detect AI-generated works.

• Most of you might have read that a bright young computer science student from Princeton University named Edward Tian has been working on creating a way to use AI to detect AI-generated works or so-called high-tech plagiarism.

• Edward has been developing how to detect and differentiate AI-generated texts from human-generated ones for the last couple of years.

As soon as ChatGPT was released, Edward was also ready with an app called GPTZero that could identify texts created using AI. He released GPTZero within three days from the day ChatGPT was public.

GPTZero is a cool app that can assess whether a text is AI-generated.

AI may indeed kill many jobs, including content writing jobs. AI can pose a challenge to teachers in assessing their students' text assignments.

Since the ChatGPT was released for public use, students have heavily utilized it to create essays. Many educational institutes and universities banned ChatGPT on their servers. But, students can still use it in their homes or by using VPN.

• GPTZero can be a handy tool for teachers to get an idea of computational AI bots to generate their students' written texts. Anybody can use GPTZero to check a piece of text for transparency.

Humans have the right to know whether a text piece was originally composed by a human brain or was created by machine-assisted software.

Conclusion

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are opening a new world.

For example, ChatGPT is trending in people's life with many promises. No doubt about it that the developments and testing must go on. But, ChatGPT is posing a threat of "goodby homework" by the students to the educational world.

• There should be a check on the rise of so-called high-tech plagiarism by artificial intelligence and machine learning software apps.

GPTZero is an interesting usecase of artificial intelligence and machine learning for empowering the human-centric education and writing job market with an online software tool to detect high-tech plagiarism.

• The human race must be careful lest artificial intelligence and machine learning may pave a mischievous way to avoiding education and learning.
