Soothing lies versus the Truth
Hey, it's been over a week since I last posted here. This has likely been one of my longest publishing hiatuses on this platform. I'm going to write today about a prompt that I got from the prompt book I downloaded.
The prompt says:
'According to a Czechoslovakian proverb, "Better a lie that soothes than a truth that hurts." Do you agree? Why or why not? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer.'
The truth can be bitter
It is well known that the bitterness of the truth makes it frequently very difficult to speak or write about. One of the reasons why the world is such an unkind place is because we live in a society where lies and deception abound.
You and I are probably not exceptions to the rule that almost everyone has lied at some point. The "absolute truth" cannot be replaced, thus sometimes we tell lies since it may be difficult to utter or write the truth. even if the deception is close. A lie is, in fact, a lie, and the truth is, in fact, the truth.
Most of the time, we tell lies because they are more comfortable and convenient than telling the truth, but in actuality, there is nothing that can compare to telling the truth. Even if it might be quite weighty to speak, the truth is preferable to a lie.
Well, when we speak, write, or behave in a true way, we are free from guilt and the weight of deceit. The possibility that our falsehoods will one day be discovered weighs on our minds whenever we tell them. In contrast to individuals who are truthful, those who utter lies will never have true peace of mind.
Too much talking results in sin, says Proverbs 10:19. Furthermore, we frequently tell lies as a result of talking too much.
Nowadays, a lot of companies rely on deception and falsehoods to promote their products to consumers by providing them with incorrect information about the goods or services they offer.
Soothing lies?
Sometimes we encounter circumstances in which we are afraid to reveal the truth because it could offend our friends or loved ones.
For instance, a person who is ready to take a test and just lost a parent. Because you worry the individual could become unstable, you can decide against telling them the specifics of what happened. It may be necessary for us to tell a lie in order to hide the truth since, in such a scenario, the lie may be soothing.
This raises the important issue, Is it Ever Good to Lie?
Well, in my opinion, telling a lie isn't a good idea, even though one could argue that in the situation described above, telling a falsehood or withholding the truth would be comforting. The truth, however, is the truth, and hence peace of mind, even when it may directly or indirectly destabilize a person. In my opinion, nothing is more calming than the truth.
The truth now seems unusual
We currently live in a world, where government, cooperation, and individuals thrive by telling lies or half-truths to themselves. We now live in a world where telling the truth is now dangerous and look unusual. But nothing can compare to the truth.
No matter how many lies are spoken to hide it or how much it is suppressed, the truth usually finds a way to come to the surface.
Although it may take some time, the truth will ultimately come to light. Sometimes trying to hide the truth is like trying to sink a log of wood in water. No matter how hard you try, you can never sink a log of wood.
Conclusion
Nothing pays more than the truth, thus we should always tell the truth, no matter how unpleasant or bitter it may be. Nothing relieves more than the truth.
