Today, people are in a rush. Everyone is busy, and work hours seem to be getting longer and longer. It seems that we have less time than ever to enjoy the things that really matter, like spending time with those we love or doing a sport that we love.
Everyday we make hundreds of decisions like "which outfit to wear to work", "which cafeteria to eat lunch at", "which route to take home at the end of the day".
The most difficult decisions we face are not the binary ones, yes or no, A or B. They are the decisions that have a long list of pros and cons - decisions that require us to weigh our options and determine which one stands out.
Like decisions about how to spend your time or how to invest your energy and resources, and decisions like that requires you to prioritize.
A priority is something that is important or urgent and requires immediate attention. Prioritizing is the process of identifying and giving top priority to a limited number of goals so they will be accomplished in a timely manner, while lower priority goals are deferred or ignored.
It is important for one to set priorities in life. It is a normal thing for one to have so many things he or she wants to do in life. One may try his or her best but it does not mean that he or she will be able to do all the things he or she wants to do.
A person who takes time to set his or her priorities in life will surely be able to achieve success in every area of his or her interest. Setting priorities also helps one to achieve his or her goal and dreams faster than setting none at all.
Prioritizing is a discipline. It can be learned. It's an ongoing process that requires discipline, focus, and commitment. When practiced consistently it becomes habitual.
It is important to set priorities otherwise one might spend time doing things that may not be necessary.
It is a common thing in most people, and I believe it is human nature to focus on activities that result in instant gratification like; "playing video games" or "watching a movie" rather than doing something productive like "reading and writing".
Though playing games or watching a movie might be interesting and relieving but in reality most of these activities take up our precious time that we could have spent on something productive.
To solve this problem of distraction we can create time for doing things that gratify us but not at the expense of something more important
Factors to setting priorities.
Firstly, you need to recognize your priorities. And the first step is to ask ourselves what is really important to you?
For example, if you're considering a career change and you don't know what your first step should be, the broadest priority would be to identify the best place to start - to learn as much as you can about your options. Doing so will help you narrow down your choices by providing clarity around which steps will best support your broader priorities
Secondly, one must be able to set priorities according to his or her current circumstances and based on what is important.
Thirdly, one must be able to manage time. It is really important that one needs to learn how to maximize his or her time, energy and resources. People who manages time well will be able to do all they need in life and still have ample time for sleep and leisure.
It is important that we know our priorities in life before we begin setting them, so that we can prioritize the right things.
Having to set my schedule everyday has taught me that if you're not discipline, you would never get anything done, one have to use the scale of preference to get priority set if not you would do the first thing last
