Principles of Leadership
In my post "Who is a leader?" I outlined some of the critical traits that a leader has to have.
Today, I want to discuss the values that underpin effective leadership. Any thought or behaviour is built upon principles, which are unchanging facts. Leadership isn't an exception, almost every belief or trait in life is guided by certain principles.
Clarity
Because successful leaders must be clear about their objectives, vision, and the direction they are guiding their followers in, clarity is crucial in leadership. The adage "the blind cannot guide the blind" is frequently used to describe this situation.
One of the characteristics that distinguish a person in the race to become a leader is clarity.
Transparent and open communication with their followers is key to a successful leader.
If followers do not understand their intentions and goals, they will find it harder to follow them. They must always keep their objectives and vision clear.
Competence
Competence is defined as the capacity to do activities successfully and produce desirable outcomes. You must be skilled in your profession if you want to be a good leader. As a leader, you must also be capable of handling any jobs that are delegated to you.
There are different ways in which you can be competent at your job as a leader. You can learn about the different skills of your subordinates and delegate duties based on their strengths.
Commitment
A good leader is dedicated to their position, is focused, and does not delegate their work to others or leave it unfinished. A devoted leader never betrays the faith their followers have in them.
If a follower has faith in a certain cause or dream that they believe in and a leader betrays that faith and lets them down, then it can make them feel like all hope is lost with that particular cause or dream.
Creativity
A true leader is one who can start something from nothing. Ideas are generated, and one may envision both the near and far future. A creative individual is the only one who can inspire creativity in others.
Oftentimes, we see people instructing and motivating using knowledge from a textbook or experience. However, to be a guide that guides others down a path, one must understand how to develop and lead others.
Continuous learning
A capable or good leader is constantly open to learning. For a leader to be at the top of his game, more information, knowledge, and wisdom are required.
The majority of people in positions of leadership make the error of stopping their education, and after some time, they discover that they are no longer relevant or unable to complete a task or handle a certain problem.
Consistency
A leader must be someone whose vision, objectives, or aims are constant. A leader is someone who doesn't lose their focus under pressure. They are persistent because they are relentless in their pursuit of what they desire.
I could go on and on about the principles that govern leadership, but I think the ones stated above are the most key ones.

Also, a good leader needs to be transparent. He should be accountable to his followers. This way, his followers will trust him and he will be a good role model to his followers.
