Information is Power

Right now I am so raged and panicking as I don’t know what to write about. Oh my gosh! I wish you could see the way I am scanning through my phone; checking my gallery, my former written works and poems hoping that I might see something that might be a source of inspiration on what to write about.

I was initially writing about the war between Russia and Ukraine but I was quick to reach a dead end; as I realized that to write about the conflict between the two neighbouring countries would take a lot of time than I intended to spend and might result in me not being able to publish anything today.

I have always wanted to write about the conflict because I realized most people don’t understand the issue going on in Ukraine, and most are really confused about the conflict due to their limited knowledge about international politics.

Don’t worry friends keep your fingers crossed as I have already begun to draft a write up concerning the war and the essential things you need to know and I will publish it hopefully very soon.

In this age we live in, information is very important and I remember writing an article about how misinformation poses a threat to world’s peace.

Just as the popular saying that says: "an uninformed person is a mentally deformed person”. Therefore, meaning that we need to gather information but one thing that is certain is that nobody on earth is an island of knowledge; meaning you can’t simply know it all.

For example, I can know a lot concerning geography, international politics, history and so on, I might know very little or nothing when it comes to sport like football or basketball, or I might know very little about how to flirt. (Hehe)

But one thing we should not do is to shun the door to learning new things, although we cannot have passion or interest in everything in life, but we should know that every knowledge gained in life might be useful one day.

The internet is seen these days as a pool of information; which is very true. But as it can be a pool of information it can also be the place for misinformation because these days we can hardly tell the difference between real and fake.

Censorship

Information is power and that why many undemocratic countries in the world today like China hina and Russia heavily censor their news and the information being shared across all the media platforms. North korea is even worse when it comes to censorship, information from the outside world doesn't get into the country.

This act of censorship is fast becoming a common trend that is happening in many countries across the world. Many government especially those in developing countries have successfully switch off the internet during protests or election; as way of letting the populace lack access to information.

Something similar happened in Nigeria in 2021 after the ENDSARS protest, twitter took down a tweet by the presidency and made the government and these made the government angry and they retaliated by banning the use of twitter across the country.

Another reason for the Swift banning was that the government felt that twitter was a major medium where the coordination, financing of the protest was being held.

The government instructed all the telecommunication providers to cut off access to the micro blogging site for seven months, although many youth were able to navigate the ban thanks to special tools like VPN.

Some countries government like Egypt have internet kill switch ability whereby the government can switch off the entire internet of the entire country.

The power of free media

The power of social media is so powerful that many dictatorial government would not want the free and unrestricted medias and new outlets.

They know the power those platforms contain and that it can lead to the fall of their government so they censor all the medias.

For example in Russia there is lack of genuine information about the Russia invasion of Ukraine and almost all the free media have closed down due to fear of being arrested.

Only pro government medias are broadcasting and they are all saying and writing what the government wants the citizens to hear, they claim it isn't a war but a special operations. (Sadistic) 🤦

I sign off here đź‘Ś

Thank you for reading today's article.

The media is so powerful these days, it the capacity to pull down a nation by one simple information (either right or wrong), and also has the capacity to build up a nation. Thank you for sharing this, I just found out that there are countries that switch Of & On, there internet connectivity

Information is now one of the most things for development of a country even the world with information no one will know about the invasion of Russia in Ukraine, no one will heard new about what’s going on in domestic country. And many more. Nothing will be done without informations.

Directly or indirectly every government have a way of censoring news going out. Information is power but at the same time deadly. Sometimes knowing somethings hurts more than not knowing it. Vice versa

All medias are censored but the level of censorship varies from one country to another.

Another angle, yes some information are not meant for the general public and it would be dangerous to be released.

It seems censorship truly is the new trend some countries are ready to adapt in. It is sad truly when information isn't shared around. I do agree that the internet misinform and inform us depending on how we choosee to make use of it.

That's why we have to make use of it wisely and be careful before believing in any information

One thing I have realised news isn't a good way to get information about the whole world. Most of the times they show the one side of the coin. After that comes the social media. I don't know much about the War but I understand that War is fought between two nations and both are responsible to rage it in some way. The citizens are innocent but the leaders of that place aren't.

.. and it's very sad that the media still feeds us false information in some cases, making us believe lies. I hardly believe anything the news says these days.

Information is truly powerful. When government deprive her citizens of it, certainly they will be deformed because they won't know what is going on. I have heard about this North Korea that the government keeps her citizens off from info outside their country. I don't like that idea.
