What is member.cash?

51 11

The bregecko's post motivated me to write about member.cash. Member.cash is an open source software programmed by @FreeTrade (not to be confused with freetrader), which uses memo-protokol and allows to read the posts written with memo.cash and to write to the blockchain like memo.cash. This means that all actions are written in the Bitcoin Cash blockchain, just like memo does. You can see all the posts you have written with member by using memo and vice versa.

The same posts on member.cash

if you have a memo.cash account and want to use member.cash, you only have to import your memo.cash private key into member.cash. That's all (if you have not yet exported and written down your private key from memo, this is highly recommended anyway). You can also do it the other way around. You can create an account on member.cash and import your private key into memo.cash. Unlike memo.cash, which stores a database with user names and passwords outside the blockchain, member.cash does not have a separate database for this. You login with your private key.

Member.cash has many advantages. For example, you can use the reddit markup language and write unlimited posts (memorandums).

https://member.cash/index.html?ad5a#thread?post=ad5ac8af11

Furthermore, the reddit like design of member is more readable for many answers than memo. You can also rate other users. Thereby the users get a score, which represents their trustworthiness. You can see on a map which merchants are near you that accept Bitcoin Cash. Another possibility is to become a moderator and moderate topics similar to reddit. You have the possibility to display the amonunts in USD instead of BCH and some other possibilities which you should explore by yourself.

The latest news is that you can send private messages to other users on member.cash. These messages are stored encrypted in the blockchain, unlike normal posts which are visible to everyone. You have to be careful with this feature, because if the recipient's private keys are published, all communication with this user is compromised, so I don't recommend sending very large secrets this way. However, if you only want to send information to another user that is not very important and still do not want everyone to read it, you can use it.

Member.cash also has disadvantages. Member.cash cannot handle SLP tokens. You cannot send or receive SLP tokens with member.cash. You cannot send satoshis to external addresses, you can only give tips to other member users.

The biggest advantage of member.cash in my opinion is the fact that the project is open source and that it is constantly being developed. Everybody can view, download and adapt the source code and submit their suggestions for changes.

I use member.cash in addition to memo.cash and have very good experience with it. Many thanks at this point for @FreeTrade for his good work.

Thank you for this helpful article. But i am confused about the process. As Bitcoin cash is an easy platform to register and to write about anything, i found this platform an easier process to handle through mobile phone. Is memo or member cash also an easy platform to handle?

Bitcoin Cash is not a platform to register and write about anything. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a cryptocurrency you can earn here. Read more here https://read.cash/@Read.Cash/explanation-of-bitcoin-cash-for-normal-people-0e84fa10

Read.cash (not Bitcoin Cash) is a platform to write blogs. Memo.cash or member.cash are platforms where you can write short messages (like Twitter) and also earn Bitcoin Cash tips.

Just found out about member.cash a few days ago. Pretty cool to have a BCH-based reddit and even cooler, that is is combined with memo.

What type of cryptocurrency do you mean? I wrote about member.cash not about a type of cryptocurrency.

Is there a way to earn on member.cash like memo? Or are there additional ways to earn here?

Every satoshi you get on memo appears on member and vice versa.

No, there are no more options, at least not at this stage. It's just another way to post and display the posts more conveniently.

Haha nice to see my memo post up there! There are LOTS of great work done in member, specially in the protocol improvement and the indexing server. I still believe the new Reddit theme can totally change the game for member but I think it's not favored by FreeTrade.

But a question, how 'memorandums' work? I didn't find it in the member protocol page in github

The memorandum is divided into several parts and written in the blockchain as individual posts. On memo they look chopped up because of this.

Right. A chain of answers is written. It can be better presented on memo if you click on rollup

This might be a dumb question.... Since you can import private key from memo, does that mean you will have the same amount in your account or be able to transfer back and forth? Thnks

You actually have the same amount in member and memo. However, the Satoshis bound with tokens are not counted on member. You should know that your Satoshis are not on the memo or member, but in the blockchain. Your Priv Key is used by Memo and Member to perform transactions.

Makes sense. How can I tell how many Satoshis I have bound with tokens?

$ 0.00

Then you will find the maximum amount of satoshis you can send. The rest is bound to tokens.

I made my account with the Membercash, so aside of a key it also gave me a seed that I can use as a wallet. It is a very convenient application.

Thanks for your information.. I am only using read.cash...it is my first online site where i am writing. . Member.cash is new one for me... I just have a question.. Is member.cash like read.cash? What's the task there? Thanks!

Member.cash Is (or wants to be) similar to Reddit. But there are three main differences:

  • every post, voting or other action costs you some satoshis (because everything requires a transaction in the Bitcoin Cash Blockchain)
  • you cannot delete your posts because everything is written in the Bitcoin Cash Blockchain.
  • You can earn with every post or comment satoshis (if someone like here tips you)

I earn there every day. I spend there every day, too. With this photo, for example, I have earned more than 200,000 satoshis few days ago.

It's like Twitter, but all memos are written to the Bitcoin Cash blockchain and can't be censored.
