In addition to the coat of arms and the flag, the anthem is a national symbol. It presents musically a composition formally recognized by the state authorities as an official state song.
The Slovenian anthem was written by our greatest Slovenian poet Dr. France Prešeren. It is called ZDRAVLJICA.The seventh stanza of the Zdravljica was proclaimed the Slovenian national anthem in 1991.
Originally called “Zdravljica”, it is a poem by the Slovenian writer France Prešeren, in the first version it was written in 1844. The poem was censored and the second version was written in 1846. Prešeren wrote his “Zdravljica” in an old version from the 16th century, the so-called bohoričica, who had thorns after Adam Bohorič. The popularity of Prešeren's song speaks of the fact that the seventh stanza was tuned and in 1989 it was named the anthem of Slovenia. The entire text of the song was translated into Croatian by Gustav Krklec. The song celebrates unity, the pleasures of life, and is one of the typical songs of the renaissance, which contradicts the style of a hostile alien nation. Therefore, in the period of revival, this song was not only popular among Slovenes, but also among other nations that defined themselves with such a fate, it was a "ZDRAVLJICA" of freedom and harmony.
“ZDRAVLJICA” belongs to a series of lyrical hymns and the theme is patriotic. The anthem signifies a song dedicated to someone or to something that a person feels a special affection for and that is considered admirable. This guy respectfully addresses the person to whom / to whom he is dedicated and shows a solemn and sublime tone.
DR.FRANCE PREŠEREN
France Prešeren was a Slovenian poet who was born on December 3, 1800, in a peasant family in Vrba. After successfully completing his studies at the Vienna Faculty of Law, he returned to Ljubljana, where he worked as a lawyer. During this time he wrote most of his poems and in writing them, he was significantly guided by his friend Matija Čop. Prešeren was the first Slovene to compete with contemporaries in Europe in terms of the quality of his writing, where a romantic orientation prevailed at the time.
His most famous songs are:Zdravljica,Sonetni venec,Krst pri Savici,Turjaška rozamunda,Kam?,Povodni mož,O Vrba srečna,draga vas domača and many many more...........
The picture shows Prešeren's birth house in Vrba in the Gorenjska region.
The house has been a museum for almost a century, for which the admirer Fran Saleški Finžgar has a great deal of credit. As early as 1872, less than a quarter of a century after Prešeren's death, the Slovenian Writers' Association erected a memorial plaque at Prešeren's birthplace. In 1937, the then owner agreed to relinquish it to public ownership in exchange for a new house. Even before the summer of 1939,at a special ceremony, the house was handed over to the Slovenian nation.
He was unhappily in love with Primič's rich Julia, to whom he also dedicated the Sonnet Wreath (1834) and some other love songs. His friends were dying one after another, and as a poet he was not recognized during his lifetime. In the last years of his life, he increasingly faced discouragement, problems with alcohol, which ultimately led to his death. He died on February 8, 1849 in Kranj.
The day of Prešeren's death is a Slovenian cultural holiday. The highest recognition of the Republic of Slovenia for achievements in the field of art is called the Prešeren Award. A TV series based on the screenplay by dr. Matjaž Kmecl and Branko Šömn with Pavel Ravnohrib in the lead role. Prešeren's name is the mountain hut on Stol and the only Slovenian variety of roses - Rosa Prešeren.
