Mental Health Should Be A School Subject
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Ruining our mental health can already affect our entire system. It is very important to remember that our mental health is constantly changing. Not because someone has a very good mental health doesn't mean they will forever have that state of mind. Even the happiest and the sociable ones are prone to mental problems, including suicidal thoughts.
I still don't understand why mental health matters are not a priority in the schools. For me, it is the most important subject to be added in secondary and tertiary school. Not everyone is educated about mental health, often others would give the wrong piece of advice which contribute a big impact to the person's whole being.
Mental health should be one of the important subject in the school:
Mental illnesses are common
The world doesn't pay attention to mental illnesses because of the notion that it is linked to insanity. Every year, different people are diagnosed with mental illnesses or disorder which already fall to the category of severe situations.
Suicide cases are the result of unnoticed mental problems
Suicide cases begin with untreated depression. Nowadays, people are so embarrassed to ask for help because they don't want to be judged based on how they react and feel about things in life. Despite advancement in social media, it has become so difficult to reach out to many people and express our real emotions. This is why we really need to have a mental health subject in our school in order to open everyone's mind about the importance of this.
It can help us deal with the stressors
The majority of the problems in everyday life are caused by the various stressors we may encounter along the way. Often we do not notice it because we are so focused on ignoring it rather than dealing with it properly. In this way, we are creating an endless cycle of stressors in our lives. We should learn how to manage them. Having a mental health subject in the school can totally aware the students on the different stressors they face every day and how they can deal with them.
Students will not feel alone in their struggles in life
One of the best ways to totally relieve anxiety and depression is to surround yourself with a group of people who are experiencing the same thing. In this way, someone will not feel they are alone or an outcast. They won't feel that the world is against them. It's not them versus the world. Having a group talk or one-on-one one comforting discussion where someone will listen can already totally impact someone's current state of mind.
Having a mental health subject means giving a student a break
We shouldn't focus on the quantity but rather on the quality. The school system nowadays are rushing to give academic activities to students which is a failure. It is a failure when the student only submit just to pass but not to learn. Having a mental health subject will give a student a break to rethink and process their thoughts, in this way they are not clouding their mind with unnecessary stuffs.
Some people don't realize that the reason why a student doesn't excel in school is because they are facing a silent battle. They are facing something that they can never open up because they think school is only a place for learning. School should also be the place where we feel safe to express our real emotions. Mental health is the very important part of a school's function and curriculum. We should empower students with knowledge about mental health and encourage them to open up.

I agree Sydney there should be some courses offered in the this subject. People need to be guided on this and taught how to deal with it. Good write up :)
