Somewhere in the USA...
...and I started to write this and then remembered today is trash day and I hadn't put it out by the curb yet so I had to take care of that first but now here I am. lol
Chalk up one more year on my journey through the Universe as today marks the 63rd anniversary of my birth in 1960. And yesterday I got the glasses I have been anticipating and I can SEE things properly again. So the year is off to a passable start so far.
No plans for a birthday celebration, no cake nor ice cream on the menu for the foreseeable future, I did consider sticking a candle in a burrito and having a breakfast birthday burrito but decided not to.

17 °C/62 °F this morning with a bit of a drizzle of rain. Spent a bit over an hour this morning trying to sneak out onto the front porch without scaring anyone off before I could get a good photo of the raccoons. Pitch dark outside and shooting with only the front porch light it takes a few seconds to get a good manual focus set; the auto-focus setting takes even longer in low-light situations.
The second photo featuring Mr Skunk is the first time I've seen one here this year.

Somewhere in the USA...
I guess there may have been gunshots and fireworks at midnight, but this was my 62nd 'new year' since I was born and I know nothing ever really changes and I enjoy sleeping so why stay up for it? Heck, my birthday is 4 days from today and I don't stay up to usher it in and it never fails to arrive.
So anyway here we are in next year which is now this year and will likely be just like last year.
Back later, I need some more caffeine...
Beginning top left and moving clockwise, Scar is my 7½ year-old male who adopted me when he was a 3 month-old stray kitten; P.T. (Petey) is also a male and showed up and decided to eat here about 1½ years ago and I figure he was at least 2 years at the time; and Emoci (M.O.C./My Other Cat) moved in just as the pandemic began to take hold and was at least one year old then. So all three are actually strays that chose to live here. Scar really doesn't like P.T. very much and it is very unusual the get a photo of all three laying in the same general area.

Merry New Year to all
If anyone had plans they wanted to complete before 2023 arrives they'd better get busy. lol
3:22 A.M. finds me on my first mug of coughee and my second smoke of the day - although only a few sips remain in my mug so I should probably get another pot ready.
Speaking of pot, no, I haven't smoked any yet today, I like to at least wait for sun-up for that type of activity.
Photo is a few days old, taken Wednesday afternoon while Emoci sat and took a bath in a sumbean coming through the window where I put the large shelf for them (cats) to sit on.
Scar always looks like he is in a bad mood or ready to kick someone's ass. He is rather aggressive most of the time and has been known to give me a good hiss when I tell him 'No' about things. I've even been the recipient of a few serious 'growls' a time or two - boy has a terrible disposition when he doesn't get his way.
I put this 15 in/38 cm deep shelf in the kitchen window a few days ago - the window sill is only 4 in/10 cm deep and they didn't really have much room to sit in it though they kept insisting they needed to sit there. Now they can even nap without falling out of the window.
Caffeine and nicotine, two great tastes that go great together! or some bullshit like that. lol
Lots of people 'missing in action' here lately, I guess they don't want to take a chance on things unless they know they will get paid for it. My view is they sure as hell will not get paid anything for NOT posting, so they are kind of defeating their purpose.
Oh well...I'm still here.
Last night I finally received a vinyl copy of my youngest brother's band's first release 'In Front Of God & Nobody'. Just about the time I was getting ready to 'unplug' for the night, there was a discrete knock at my front door, and I opened it to find Parker Fyffe, the lead singer/leader of the band, standing there with a late Christmas gift for yours truly.
Morning scurry of squirrels feeding with a blue jay in the background making a momentary appearance.

Had several pairs of cardinals (redbirds) feeding here yesterday, spots of bright color all throughout the trees. Second photo also shows a good view of a blue jay (I had three of them dive-bombing the feeders).
Shooting (camera) birds in my front yard today. First photo is a Dark-eyed Junco (locally called a 'snowbird') and the second photo is a row of house sparrows, in fact could have been a spare row of sparrows.

Heatwave going on with the temp currently 21° and a high of 32° expected. Of course, that is in Fahrenheit. In Celsius, it is currently -6° with a high of 0°.
And it is lightly snowing.
So no, not a heat wave dang it.
The day after Christmas and 'Boxing Day' and my cats heard that and started excitedly asking when did they get their boxes.
Welcome to my Monday morning.

Merry Christmas to those of you who do the Christmas thing. I realize not everyone does, and I also realize that not everyone that does do it does it the same way, because some don't hold with the commercial aspects or the St Nick or whatever, and others do it FOR those things and not for any religious purposes, and all I know is my birthday is in 11 days and everything will be on sale cheap like it always is after Christmas which means I'll buy myself something for my birthday I couldn't afford to buy myself at Christmas - which makes ME merry.
Emoci watches out a window as the birds are feeding, a bit chilly out, currently -12 °C/+10 °F at 8:20 in the morning.

-15 °C outside at the moment, a bit warmer that yesterday when it was -22 about this time of day.
Scar went out 3 times yesterday, each for less than 2 minutes, and Emoci doesn't even have any interest in it. I am a bit worried about P.T. though, he doesn't like being in houses a whole lot and he went out yesterday morning and I haven't seen him since. I'm sure he's holed up somewhere, but I'd feel better knowing for sure he isn't a cat Popsicle.
I put a new thermostat on the wall for the furnace the other day, the old one was a mercury-switch type that was over 50 years old and the spring was weakening, which kept the furnace kicking on/off all the time, my last heating bill was $169 for 30 days and I have to get that lower. Of course, with the sub-zero temps the heater is getting a hell of a workout, so it'll be several more days until I decide how much of a difference it is making.
5 cents since December 20th. That is how much I have received in tips from people in Noise.app the past 3 days.
190 cents is how much I have handed out here in the past three days.
A little bit of math shows that -190 + 5 = FRUSTRATION
I guess I'll continue until I have nothing left in my wallet (which shouldn't take long at this rate).
-22 °C @ 4 AM today and a couple of inches of snow outside. Wind pushing along at about 14 km/h makes it feel even worse.
Meanwhile, Queen Emoci settled herself down right on top of the keyboard earlier, I guess she felt I wasn't giving her enough attention. Scar is situated on the bedroom floor, and Petey is feasting.

Snowmageddon is coming...
Currently -13 °C/8 °F and they say around midnight it'll drop to -19 °C. I don't think the cats will show much interest in going outside.
What the hell, we'll spin one more.
Cartridge change for this one, some albums sound better with my older Audio-Technica cartridge/stylus instead of the Ortofon 2M Blue I usually run (which only audiophiles will understand what I am talking about).

Well, tonight is when the bad weather moves in to my area, we are only going to get a couple of inches of snow (some areas are calling for blizzard conditions) but the thermometer is going to drop below 0 and stay there for the next 5-6 days. Not looking forward to it.
In fact, we've already reached today's high temp and it will do nothing but go down the rest of the day/evening.
But good morning from the center of the USA.

Everyone is building up that layer of winter fat to help protect them from the cold. I noticed it in my squirrels the other day and this morning three of the raccoons appeared - fat and sassy - feeding underneath the Squirrel Tree.
Maybe I'll just start telling everyone I'm simply bulking up for the winter. lol
Sunrise in about an hour from now, currently -2 °C with an expected high today of 5 °C.
Well, this makes sense. Registration has finally been closed at Noise.cash so there will not be any more new users joining there asking how they can get money from it. And I am not sure if Read.cash was always like this, but it is now invite-only.

4:15 A.M. and it is cold outside right now (-2 °C) but utter insanity occurs Friday morning (in 72 more hours) when the forecast calls for -21 °C with a wind-chill (feels like) temp of -34 °C.

The temperature is supposed to dip below freezing Thursday evening and will not rise above freezing until next Wednesday, with daily high temperatures Friday through Tuesday all below 0.
I dislike Winter.

The squirrels in both photos are the same, actually. The brown (technically an Eastern Grey Squirrel, the brown goes away after the first year or so) also carries the albino gene that the first photo exhibits. The white one is also an Eastern Grey squirrel but is expressing the latent gene that all Eastern Grey squirrels carry.
They were a bit hongry since I didn't put any feed out yesterday, it was simply too cold. I opened the door to let cats out & in a few times and that was all the cold air I wanted. lol

And here comes Old Man Winter to help usher in Christmas. Just looked at the extended forecast and it appears Thursday - which will be the warmest day this week - will also be the coldest night.
And although snow is forecast for Friday, accumulation will be less than one inch, so by Sunday when Christmas arrives it'll be gone - no white Christmas for my area this year.
Currently -7 with an expected high of 1 today.
