My New Year's resolution is 1024 × 768 3:50 A.M. Sunday Morning 01 January 2023 Somewhere in the USA... I guess there may have been gunshots and fireworks at midnight, but this was my 62nd 'new year' since I was born and I know nothing ever really changes and I enjoy sleeping so why stay up for it? Heck, my birthday is 4 days from today and I don't stay up to usher it in and it never fails to arrive. So anyway here we are in next year which is now this year and will likely be just like last year. Back later, I need some more caffeine...

      I'm on a limited income of roughly $1000 per month and I own my house, which means all the bills for it are mine. With the cost of everything going up so much in the past few years, I'm lucky to have anything leftover each month.

        That's just a little under what I was earning at my last job. As an income for a single person, it was great, since I was putting away about a third of that each month. Sadly, it only lasted three months because the project lead resigned. I now have to live of that for at least another two months, which means not buying anything not vital. But yeah, going it alone is tough.

        Especially in winter here - my last heating bill was $170 for 33 days. However, I did just recently replace the thermostat (about 2 weeks ago) and the heater seems to be cycling better instead of kicking on every 4-5 minutes so hopefully I'll get that lowered quite a bit on the next bill. I'm just glad I own, if I was renting there's no way I could afford to keep the utilities on.

        Everyone I know is adamant that if you can afford to buy, then buy. In the long term, renting is for the birds. However, the housing market is nuts, even with drops in price thanks to COVID.

        I only own mine because my Dad died and I used my share of the inheritance last year to 'buy out' my 4 sisters and 2 brothers. The house really isn't worth much on the market, but the roof is solid (replaced 5 years ago) and there are no holes leading through the walls outside, and bad interior paint and 52 year old carpeting doesn't really bother me much.
