It's the second day of October and gradually, the month is rolling. I can't wait for the end of the month π π
Just five days remaining, then I will be free from this examination. Seriously, I am trying to engage online but it seems I can't take my eyes off those books beside me. The little time I spared to engage online, I still find myself flipping pages of my book because I don't want to depend on anyone during exam. I don't ask questions in the exam hall, it's me and my God and what I have stored in my brain. Well, it's a matter of time.
Yesterday morning, I was directed to YouTube from my Savings App and I watched the interesting interview with four (4) Nigerians to celebrate the independence day of our country. Questions were asked and they gave their own views and stories behind them. I was inspired through those questions and I quickly wrote them down somewhere so I can talk about my own experience. So, ride with me as I take you into the Questions.
HOW WAS NIGERIA BACK THEN VS. NOW?
Seriously, Nigeria has changed a lot and I would say, right from when I was born, I was Privileged to witness how my country was compared to now. Let's talk about security which one of the Nigerians talked about. During those times, traveling anytime of the day is very easy and free. There is no fear of being abducted or kidnapped, there were good roads that accidents weren't always on record every now and then. You can travel at night and be rest assured of getting home safely. What about now? You would have to fast for days before embarking on a journey for the fear of accident or being matcheted on the way.
Unlike now that we have children who has stopped breastfeeding, they will be taken to creche school, kindergartens because their parents just want them to learn something. Some parents are working class and would drop their children at school and return back to pick them up. During those times, if a child isn't up to seven years or if such child's hand can't reach their ears, they aren't allowed to go to school until their hands can be twisted from back to front.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST MONEY EXPERIENCE?
I remembered when we were small and growing up, when visitors come around, we are very sure they would give us money and when they are gone, our parents would ask us to bring it to help us save it but we know the money is gone. You dare not ask them again except you do not eat their foodπ π
Also, as a child, when an adult promise to give us money, we would keep asking them until they give us because children have this remembering memory. Just don't promise to give me money because you will not rest. π
WHEN WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU EARNED MONEY?
During my Junior Secondary School, I wanted to make my own money and I told my mom to borrow me some money which I used as capital to get biscuits, sweets and other goodies including Zobo drink (a Nigeria juice). That was when I started earning money for myself. I returned the money I borrowed and I continued from there.
I also earned money as an assistant lesson teacher at a corner in our house then. My duty is to hold cane and monitor children not to make noise π I was given just little money then but I earned my money in a good way.
HOW HAS THE VALUE OF MONEY CHANGED OVER TIME?
A Nigerian said he once collected #18 ($0.036) per month as a Corper in years back which helped him cope. Another said of how he was paid #800 ($1.6) in an oil and gas company in year 1990 and it was enough to feed him and his family.
I also witnessed this era too and I wish those good times can return back. Every Sunday, there is a woman who sells trousers and shirts for #50-#100 ($0.1-$0.2) and we would pick them up and buy them. Food were so cheap then that 5 cups of rice was around $0.2 then.
The value has really changed now, hardly would you manage $100 as a married person in a month especially when children would have to go to school, pay their fees etc. How much do you pay for brideprice now? π π
WHAT WAS THE FIRST THING YOU SAVED FOR?
It was my Laptop. I started saving then to buy my own laptop but after some weeks, I spent the money π£ but God showed up using someone from the U.S to send me a brand new laptop. Now, the laptop has been taken by thievesπ
These are the questions I generated from the interview and I would like to see some entries too. @mcyusuf @esthery97 @happyboy @Olasquare @George_Dee and others I don't want to keep tagging.
I don't want to limit it to only Nigerians but I want other countries to tell us their own experiences too.
You can also tag others from your end and let the circle continue from there so we can have interesting entries.
I want to use this opportunity to thank @Bloghound for renewing her Sponsorship with a big amount. It's really huge amount for me. God bless you
Thanks for reading
I did my entry already, so sorry I have to come back to read this because I was extremely exhausted yesterday.
The country has gone off track a long time ago, I would be happy to see a change but I am not putting my heart into it because the chances of it happening is slim. I love your answers to the questions.
