There was a crusade that was held some years back in Ibadan City, it was time for the Choir to lead the people into singing from the hymn, they sang the song "On a hill faraway, stood an old rugged cross........", As the leader of the choristers was singing, nothing happened and a man from the congregation wasn't satisfied with the way they were singing it, the song didn't move anyone at all, everyone stood still, clapping solemly and moving their bodies but this man stood still watching them. He went to meet the Pastor and pleaded for him to sing the song in the right way. He was permitted and held the microphone.
As he sang the first verse of the song, many people fell on their knees and started crying from their hearts. Souls were won to God that day.
While the man sang with passion and with pure heart, the leader of the choir only sang for her sonorous voice to be heard.
Every lyrics and purpose of a song matters a lot especially when you are singing songs to glorify God.
It was a beautiful Sunday yesterday and a wonderful moment spent in the house of God. After the Sunday School, we started the Praise and Worship session.
During this moment, you must let your heart be aligned with God. Nothing should distract you but let your focus be gazed on only the true one (God). The Bible says "those that must worship God must worship in truth and in spirit."
We moved onto singing from the hymn and this is where my focus would be this morning. The song was "Count your blessings name them one by one".
We sang the song slowly and paying attention to the lines, I was glad within me to understand those wordings. When I got to the verse 3 of the song, I had to sing it again on my own and would want to share some promising and hopeful messages to us.
It isn't as if I haven't heard or listened to the song before, in fact it is among my favorite hymn songs that I love to sing especially when I am grateful for all God has done for me. Nothing is so little that He has done because I consider everything to be the best of all what He has done. Here goes the verse 3;
"When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you his wealth untold.
Count your many blessings; money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven nor your home on high."
Chorus;
"Count your blessings;
Name them one by one.
Count your blessings;
See what God hath done.
Count your blessings;
Name them one by one.
Count your many blessings;
See what God hath done."
Many people are fond of giving excuses because they feel God hasn't done much for them. Waking up at all is the greatest gift from God to mankind because it is when you are alive, you still have hope to do so many things in life. We tend to forget that "giving thanks for the little we have, is much more better than complaining over the things you do not have"
Let's take for instance,
"A man who has legs to walk but still complains of having a motorcycle to ride on whereas there is someone who is crippled". It shows how ungrateful the man is for not appreciating those legs he has to walk with.
There was a testimony during Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God where the woman who has been crippled and on a wheelchair was dancing hard. They said she danced so hard and well while on the wheelchair and instantly, she was healed and got up with her two legs.
This is a woman who saw the need to be grateful rather than complaining of not having legs to dance. She chose to be grateful for what she has which is life.
In that verse 3, we were made to know that even though others have many luxuries, wealth, riches etc and it looks as if those promises in the Bible for us aren't happening, we should still be grateful for the little we have because in doing that, we would have in abundance. Only a grateful soul will receive enough from God.
Count your blessings and name them one by one. From the gift of life to where we are today. Let your heart be full of Thanksgiving always.
