Don't Change Your Goal, Believe In Yourself
"When you start living the life of your dreams, there will always be obstacles, doubters, mistakes and setbacks along the way. But with hard work, perseverance and self-belief there is no limit to what you can achieve - Roy T. Bennett"
Once upon a time in a city called Origiston, The people of the town were all fishermen, who lived only from their produce. Life was fun and easy and everyone thrived to make a living. One day, the king gathered all the fishermen and announced to them about a fishing competition. The winner was to marry the king's only daughter.
Everyone was hoping to win both great and small. While walking home, all the fishermen began talking about How they were going to win the competition. The other fishermen who were not skilled were discouraged And they decided to reject the invitation to the competition. Soyinka, one of the less skilled fishermen walked home, though he loved the King's daughter but he knew he wasn't going to win. While returning home, he walked past the house of fishermen. He saw how sophisticated his net was and felt more discouraged. While walking home, an old woman met with him. Called him the husband to the King's daughter, but he politely declined, telling her how unskilled he is and how others are better.
She smiled and asked him 'son do you believe the king will give you his daughter, if you win in the competition. He nodded in affirmation. She went on to tell him, "You believed the king because you think he can't fail you, but you doubt yourself because you feel you will fail. She went on to tell him "even if you lose everything in this world, don't lose the trust you have in yourself, always believe in yourself".
The long awaited day came, all the men displayed their skill and Soyinka the only unskilled fisherman did too, this time he wasn't doubting himself and with great confidence, he launched his net in the sea, he had the highest catch. And the king kept to his word, he handed the princess to Soyinka. And when he died, Soyinka became the king. And they lived happily ever after.
The above story illustrates the power of believing in yourself. Most times life could be so tiring and daring and all your goals lie before you with no hope of being accomplished. You have tried and tried and nothing is coming forth, so you decided to let it be. Goals were meant to be accomplished with or without ease. In the story above, the king knew, not everyone will be skilled enough to have a large catch, so he pegged the goal (marrying off his daughter) to the person with the highest number of fishes. In such a quest there is bound to be a winner, because everyone can't go back the same way. Now, you've seen, every goal is meant to be accomplished regardless of the Challenges around it. Also if you had followed the story so well, you will discover, they were setbacks. Soyinka was never a skilled fisherman but one who went fishing just for personal consumption.
Educational qualification can be a major setback in achieving our goal. For instance, there is a vacancy advertised in a company and the qualifications include SSCE, B.sc, OND and HND. We all know that the highest qualification in that list is B.Sc, which could Make candidates with other qualifications get discouraged. Discouragement is the first step in losing the race. The candidate with B.Sc might get the job not because of his qualification but because of the belief he has in himself.
Believing in yourself has a way of making you accomplish tasks you wouldn't have. You don't need all the qualifications in the world to be bold, you just need the right mindset for it.
If you can believe in yourself, then you can achieve a lot of things.
Do have a beautiful day.
We must focus on positive thoughts as it will teach us how to believe in yourself...
