Always Follow Your Dream, No Matter If You Are The Only One Chasing It
My name is Peggy Johnson.I am the only child of my parents. I had this dream of becoming an actress since when I was a child. I participated in acting both in church and in school. I do see myself as a big time actor in the industry. But my parents wanted me to study law because they felt, there was no future in acting.I stood my ground and gained admission into the University to study theater art. I pressed my dream of being an actress.
After my youth service I relocated to Lagos to secure a job. Omor it was hard to get a job. I went from one auditioning to the other but they was no hope. At one of the auditioning i met my best friend Faith. Life was hard for the both of us. My friend and I went clubbing one night just to cool our minds, off the job seeking stress. There I met a guy, his name was Tony and he was a stout man he looked cool.
Since I wasn't picked at any of the auditions, I had to work as a hairdresser to make money. There was this particular lady that I admire and wish to be like her. She made a comment and I took it personally. She said that this is no small role but she is a small actress, I took these words so personally and I was so determined to make it in life.
Tony and I started dating. He was nice and gave me full time attention, he was there by my side, he took me to every audition. We had fun and enjoyed our time together. One day I went for an audition, luck was on my side. That day I got picked for a role though I was scared at first but after a word of courage from one of the ADs I played my role perfectly. He gave me something that changed my life for good. It was more like an audition for a contest " Make Me A Star" . Going back home to celebrate my success I had my worst experience. I found my best friend and my boyfriend in a compromised position. It was so heartbreaking I had to move on with my life.
I felt so scattered and betrayed by my best friend and my boyfriend. I cried all through the night I had no one to comfort me. While in my agony of betrayal I saw the flyer, the AD gave to me at the audition I decided to give it a try. During the audition, I wasn't comfortable at all,I was called in and they asked me a few questions and I answered the questions. We were told to go home and that they will get back to us in a few weeks.
One day while I was at home I got a text message from the organizers of the contest that I have been selected as the best out of all the contestants that came for the audition. I won the money prize of 20 million naira, a car and a beautiful house and most importantly I was made a star.
I was called up to give a speech of what inspired me into acting. I had to spill out everything from when I was a child up to the stage I was presently in. I told them how my parents pressured me to study law or they would disown me. I stood out to encourage everyone to pursue their dreams and not the other way round to please people. My parents saw how successful, I had become and they were so proud of me.
Never hesitate to follow your dream no matter what it takes and whatever happens. Go after your dreams, not just for others but for yourself.
