Who Is Man?

Biologically, man is seen as a highly social being, and is an animal as well. He is a biological entity who shares the attributes of physical life with the millions of plants and animals species to which he is related.

Man!!

To me, the simplest definition to give man is that man is an unpredictable element. Only man would tell you that a promise is a debt but will also tell you that promises are made to be broken. Only men would go behind laughing at you now, and hours later would go behind your  back to gossip about you. So many definitions to give to man but the most unique is that man is so unpredictable, no matter how hard you try, you can never crack the mind of a man.

 It all started five years ago when I learned about love. I learned that there were seven different types of love. Eros which is the romantic or passionate love, Philia which is the intimate or authentic friendship love, Erotoropia or Ludus love which is playful or flirtatious love, Storge love which is unconditional love, philautia love which is self love, Pragma love which is love built on commitment and finally, Agape love which is universal love.

Over time, through the struggles of life, I got to realise that the only true love was the undiluted love of God. Don't get me wrong because there was no way, as in absolutely no way, that Linda Rogers would believe in God. You can even describe me as an atheist and you wouldn't even be far from the truth because that is what I am. I do not believe in the metaphysical beliefs of God or any other spiritual being.

I was not always like this of course. Infact I always attended mass in church, prayed my rosary and read the Bible regularly. But all that changed because looking at myself, I questioned. What if there is even no God?. Looking at the world and the way humans behaved. So reckless, unforgiving and back stabbing too and yet the same people doing this will be the ones to seat at the front of the church on Sundays.

They call themselves Christians but they cause dispute and hatred among other people. They donate huge sums of money to the church but find it hard to provide food for their children at home.They claim to worship God and only God but most of them still visit other smaller gods. Hypocrisy is very common among the people who call themselves true christians and soldiers of  Christ. I would rather be true to myself than hide under the shade of Christianity to cover evil deeds.

 I don't believe in luck and I don't believe in miracles. I think life has just fallen into a pattern and everything that is happening is what is meant to happen. I have the biggest house, flit of cars and money that could last three generations to come but I believe I worked hard and nothing more. I do not believe in miracles and still I have everything I could ever ask for. Meanwhile there are people who go to church everyday, pray and pray morning, afternoon, night and still they remain the same. And you blame when I say there is no God?.

 I think my reasons are justified. I wouldn't want to believe in a supposed supreme being that I cannot see or a being who watches the wickedness of people who claim to serve him and say nothing.

I'd like to celebrate one of our many icons in the Nigerian BCH Forum on his birthday, his name @Fexonice1. On behalf of the community, I wish you a prosperous year ahead. May you never know or better yesterday and all your secret prayers come to manifestation.

The foregoing article is the thoughts of a fifteen-year-old girl whom I engaged during our rehearsals yesterday. She was quite opened to discussing what she feels was expedient in her decisions as to her believe in a supernatural being.

My words to her was to keep up faith because humans will always be human and God will always remain God. Even great Philosophers have come to this realization too.
