There are many lessons to learn in life and there are various ways by which we can learn them. We need to be intentional about our growth and I must say that many people don't want to grow intentionally, at least by the choices they make. Our choices determine what is important to us and we can't avoid lessons staring at us in the face whether we like it or not but it takes a heart ready to learn, grow and be better to see lessons masked up in various opportunities.
Many people mask up and their life will prove to you that you are to listen to what they are saying and not what they are doing. Some would only speak to you but you dare not follow their acts. They don't even live up to their own words. It is scary, to say the least.
We should seek to be better humans because growth cannot be forced upon anyone. Just as we would say in my language, you can force a donkey to the river but you cannot force the donkey to gulp down the water. You can teach and explain things to people but it is left to everyone how to grow.
Yesterday, I saw another aspect of humans. I am not utterly surprised but then you wouldn't at least expect that from the supposed men of God. They preach the word, teach the word and even tell others to follow the word yet they are not able to remove the specs in their own eyes.
My father in law is a Pastor so the funeral service was held in the Church. A lot of pastors came around and it was a packed filled service. Everything went well as we hoped and to God be the Glory for that. The after service was when these supposed men of God choose to embarrass themselves.
An offering was raised as thanksgiving which every one of us danced round to drop in the box. It's a funeral service and not an anniversary so I expected these men of God to understand that and not start expecting handouts. Of course, they were given food and prioritized because that's what mum would have done if she was alive. She was so good when it comes to being hospitable and we made sure everyone was well catered for.
Fast forward to the end of the service when everyone left, I got a report that these men of God went to all the offerings raised that day with the thanksgiving offering and they shared it amongst themselves without informing my father in law who is the pastor of the Church. We had to go and meet dad yesterday night in his room to ask him if they gave him any money and he said they didn't. They didn't only come empty-handed but they also carted away with the offering raised during the burial and that's a new low for me.
I know they are used to receiving handouts from dad and he is more like a father to them all but there is a place for courtesy, decency and common sense. How do you come to such a gathering and all that could come into your head was about how to go home with more money? None of them had the decency to come and stay with him when they heard about the sad news but they deemed it fit to cart away with the money raised? It's shameful how people you expect so much from always end up disappointing. They have proved they are just human after all and they only preach the Word, they don't live by it.
A lot of people have sold their souls just because of money and would do just about anything to get more even to the detriment of their souls. There is more to life than losing your sense of worth all for money and that's why I said that growth is optional. Age doesn't confer wisdom because it takes an intentional attitude for us to grow in life. It's even more shocking because these so-called men of God were there when the wonderful messaged was preached by another pastor on Wednesday. You would expect them to at least pick some lessons from that lovely message but as it shows, they only selected what they wanted to hear and filtered the rest away.
As humans, we need to try and be better. We need to be of help to one another and set our priorities right. There is no problem with wanting money, who doesn't? The main issue is we need to understand the occasion before we allow our greed to push us. Someone once said that the world has enough of everything we need but it can't be enough due to the greed that most people possess. A lot of time we blame the government and we forget to look deep inside to see where we need to adjust as well. You might be famous and that doesn't mean you are relevant because growth is intentional.
A lot is expected of us as humans and in as much as I am a firm believer that we should never live our lives to impress anyone, I feel being better daily should be a driving force for everyone. What's the point in loving when we are causing them so much pain that could have been avoided? We all make mistakes and it takes a willing heart to re-evaluate his ways and then make adjustments.
I also want to use this medium to appreciate everyone for their show of support in words and in-kind regarding how stressful and emotionally draining this week has been for me. You all made it easier and I am highly indebted to you all. God bless your hearts and I should be back fully in just a matter of days. I would be heading back home today anyway so I will try and get some rest before I kick things back into full gear. Thank you so much for your help at all times, I am not taking it for granted.
Thank you for your time.
