For me the camera is a tool for exploration and discovery. In this image I can see transformation. I can see the texture of a caterpillar as well as the wings of a butterfly. Watching these beautiful anemones I just got from the amazing flower farm @harmonyhrvst, I noticed the movement. These flowers open and close often as if they are dancing. It’s beautiful. I wanted to play around with the movement and color and try to incorporate it into the images. I photographed these with Nikon z7II using rear sync on my flash. I moved the camera and lens during the slow exposures. Do you have a fav? I had so much fun taking these!

When photographing these beautiful anemones from @harmonyhrvst I was taken by how much they moved like they were dancing. They would close at night then open in the morning, which brought so much light to my day! I wanted to show the movement, so I took Timelapse of their morning openings. Plaid. Seeing this leaf backlight by the sun, I was instantly taken by its complementary colors and pattern. I wanted to play with the pattern and create almost a textile with it. So I put my camera on multiple exposure (overlay mode average) and set it to capture 3 exposures. Each shot I rotated the camera 90 degrees. I used the ghosting provided in the electronic viewfinder of my Nikon z7 to line it all up.

I love watching dragonflies in flight and love how precise they land. A Needham’s Skimmer against a cloudy sky. Photographed with my Nikon z7 and nikkorz2470f4. Dragonflies often fly back and forth from the same spot. I focused in on this reed that the dragonfly had been on before and waited. I love watching patterns mix and come together, like on the wings of a monarch. Butterfly populations seem to be way down this year. I have a few ideas for why...but not really sure what’s going on.
