In animals, people love dogs the most as pet. Undoubtedly, cats are still to far behind in the race for human affection.(sorry cat lovers hehe)
Scientists say that this love was not created by chance. Dogs have achieved that. And not just with devotion .Another thing has a huge role behind this, a particular muscle. Its position is around the dog's eye. It's name is levator anguli oris Tough name,, but it's work is simple.
What is the function of this muscle? Because of this, dogs can make their eyes widen to such an extent, so that help them to get pity from us !Especially when looking at human faces they do this! The human mind is dissolved in it. These watery Mayavara eyes are much more useful than the 'meow' sound of a cat.
Where did this muscle come from?
Scientists say that 33,000 years ago, people captured wild dogs and domesticated them. That muscle has been created in the dog's face in the course of evolution after living with humans for so long time. This is not a guess. Scientists have recently reached this conclusion through research.
The study was jointly conducted by a group of British and American scientists. They compared the muscles of different types of dogs and wolves by dissecting their faces. [No, they didn't have to kill any dogs or wolves for that. They did it from taxidermy or puppet replicas of animals. ]
But to find out where a particular muscle in a dog's body came from, why do wolves have to maneuver ? Because scientists think that dogs evolved from wolves. Or more accurately, dogs and wolves are actually cousins haha. Their ancestors are identical. As a result, if a wolf's face does not have this muscle, there is only a domesticated wolf, that is, a dog's face β then it can be said with certainty that this muscle has been created in dogs to live with humans, in 33,000 years.
No other animal can understand the state of mind of a human being so much by looking at its appearance.
The study did not find any muscle in the wolf's face. Found only in dogs.
Another similar study was conducted at the University of Portsmouth in England!
To understand how the muscles around the eyes are used by dogs, what has been done there is very simple.
Scientists have observed 24 types of dogs that are kept in human families. They are taken separately in an empty room. There, each dog encounters a stranger. Four types of situations are presented to them. In one case a stranger is standing in front of a dog holding food in his hand. In another case, the man is standing in front of the dog, but has no food in hand. In another case, the man is standing with the food in his hand facing the dog. In the fourth situation, the man is standing upside down, but he has no food in his hand.
Using a powerful camera, scientists have observed what the dog's appearance looks like in four situations. Especially facial expressions.
It has been seen that when the man is looking at the dog with the food in his hand, only then that childish sad look is being created in the dog's eyes. If the man is turning in the opposite direction, it is not happening. In other words, with such a depressed face, the dog wants to arouse compassion in people. No doubt, this look is meant to show up!!
Another study found that dogs understood human facial expressions better than any other animal. That is, they understand by looking at the face, someone is angry, depressed, or happy.
In this study, pictures of different people were shown to the dogs. The man is angry at something. The man's smiling face. There is no expression on the man's face. Scientists have tried to see what kind of faces dogs look at. It has been observed that in cases where there is an expression on the human face, the dogs are looking at the face with attention. That means they understand the expression.
Scientists have been saying that human expression is actually a language of his own. With it people communicate with each other. He wants to understand each other's state of mind. No other animal can do that! They do it with behavior, with sound.
It has been thought for so long that the expression of facial expressions is the sole achievement of human beings. It turns out that even dogs closest to humans have learned this quality. And that's what they learned from people. The look in the sad eyes is a special expression of man. One man seeks mercy from another man with this gaze.
One thing to think about. If a dog uses this expression to express human kindness, it means that dogs know that people pay attention to the appearance of others. People read the language of appearance. The funny thing is, people don't have the same muscles around the eyes. People use a different muscle to do this. The gist of all these studies is the same. The relationship between humans and dogs is much more intense than previously thought. People can exchange emotional expressions with their pets. They understand each other's facial language.
