Overtaken by Darkness
Hey guys! It's time to share with you the entry I posted for a challenge created by the Philippines community on Steemit. If you have not heard of Steemit, it's also a blogging platform and I am a moderator slash greeter for Luzon. I started as a moderator just this year. Steemit has a space in my heart because it was that site that really opened up a lot of opportunities for me in the crypto world.
Also, if you are familiar with Hive, it is a hard fork of Steemit so those people in Hive came from Steemit but there were several issues before that's why they had to do a hard fork.
Anyways, going back to the topic, the title of this article is somehow dark, well, actually my town's name is Guindulman which means "Overtaken by Darkness".
Basically, back in the old times, this area in Bohol is very dark because of the presence of so many trees surrounding the town that whenever a public vehicle passes by or even the commoners who travel by feet, they'd feel scared because of how dark this town was.
But all of that was in the past because today, Guindulman is not dark anymore, it has transformed into this beautiful town filled with many wonders of nature. Allow me to share with you my town in ten pics!
Guindulman is a coastal town but it also covers a large part of land meant for agriculture. There are many ricefields, in fact, from the high way, these ricefields can be seen and during sunrise, it gives a beautiful sunrise view! Our house specifically is just standing next to a rice field!
In our town, there are many motorcycles, I guess every household has one. Even those who are living in nipa huts have their own motorcycle! This is due to the affordable installment rates from the many vehicle shops in town. Back in time, these motorcycle dealers were only available in the city or in the neighboring towns but Guindulman had cope up with the development that many establishments were already available, there are also new grocery stores and other businesses that had opened up!
But at the end of the day, the landscapes that it displays and the wonders of nature silences all noise of the surrounding, giving each citizen a time to just admire and appreciate the beauty of our town.
I, for one has been a witness to the wonderful beauty of this town. We don't need to go far to see such beauty!
With a drone, we can have a wider view of the town, aside from ricefields, there are also fish ponds where farmers had made into a living, they grow milkfish and Tilapias as well as shrimps. It's funny because whenever there's a strong rain, a lot of these fishes and shrimps overflows and the neighboring residents usually would try to catch them.
One of the things that I appreciate about our town is really the beaches. We have black sand beaches and white sand beaches. I grew up playing and swimming at these beaches. Back in the days, we would spent the whole day at the sea. My siblings and I and our friends get really dark, especially during summer!
The beaches here are also homes to many resorts. The above resort is where most of the German divers would stay. They offer diving packages.
Because our town is a coastal town, most of the livelihood is fishing. So it is evident that every single day, this view above can be seen in the coastal areas - fishermen on the way to fish.
My grandfather was a fisherman too and my father had also experienced fishing when he was younger because of the dire need to find the money for school. Thankfully, my grandfather was able to sustain my father's schooling, it was hard but it was also possible.
Fishermen today are already using machine-powered boats. This allows them to get to farther and deeper areas for a chance to get more catch!
Now let me share with you a glimpse of our town's market. Our town market is in the photo below. It's a drone shot again. There's a rubber park and playground just in front of the coast and bay walk. Behind it is the gymnasium.
The town hall is in front of the gymnasium. While the public market is on the right side, that part where the roofs are green. The Catholic Church as well can be seen here as well as the mountains of the town and the fishponds too!
Overall, our town is a simple one but it has evolved throughout time. Thank you for reading this blog! Check out my previous articles as well:
