Today is the main reason why we traveled to Cebu. While we had planned to clean our unit, that was just the secondary goal, the very first one is actually that my husband's grandmother whom we call "Lol" short for Lola is turning 82 years old. We already missed celebrating her birthday last year due to the pandemic so we made sure we are going to be present this year.
Lol and Covid
Early this year, we received a call from Oslob. My mother-in-law called us to let us know that Lol had been admitted to one of the clinics in Dalaguete. She was having a hard time breathing, she had a fever, body pains, she lost her sense of smell and taste. All Covid symptoms, she had. The family thought that was her end, she was already weak, unable to breathe properly so we were called so to inform us about it.
Later on, we learned that it was not just Lol who had the symptoms, the entire clan had been having different levels of symptoms for a month already and she was the most affected, it was understandable because she's a senior citizen and very vulnerable.
But she requested not to get tested. The doctor who attended her was also a doctor who doesn't believe in Covid. We were all confused about the situation as the family was asked for more than Php 50,000 for a specific procedure and the physician assured them that she will be well.
We didn't mind the cost, we let the doctor do whatever he proposed and when the payment was made, he did the procedure. True enough, after two days, Lol had recovered, she didn't even stay at the clinic that day after the procedure, she was brought back home and advised to rest.
Thankfully, she survived, I learned that it was like a dialysis treatment that was done, her blood was cleaned up and she was prescribed to take vitamins.
We Forgot to Bid Goodbye Last August
Another reason why we can't miss this birthday was when we traveled to Cebu last July for Zia's birthday, we were not able to say goodbye when we were about to return to Bohol.
The reason was the night before the trip, we were waiting for our swab test results. The next day was the last date before Bohol closes all borders and so we had been hoping that we can travel back, we were just waiting for our results which came at nine in the evening.
So the next morning, we went straight to the port without saying our goodbyes to the other family members as we left very early at six in the morning.
We were unaware that Lol was saddened when she went to the house and found no more Matti and James. She called us the next day when we were already in Bohol and told us about how she felt.
Elderlies are very emotional so we know how important it is to say goodbye. She even told us that she wouldn't know when will she be called to heaven so she want to be able to hug her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Lol Requested Flavored Beer
So, tonight was a beautiful one with Lol wearing her red shirt and pants. She can walk well and I can see her being healthier than before. She cut her hair shorter too and I told her she looks younger, she giggled!
She held Matti and kissed him. She is always fond of James because my husband's her first grandchild to her husband. She has the eldest daughter but she had her before she got married.
We had lechon, pancit, caldereta, spaghetti, cake, and desserts, the usual Filipino birthday celebration. Lol is happy and everyone is also happy. We even got emotional during the pray over as Manang, Lol's eldest daughter prayed for good health and strength for their mother.
We call her Lol after one of her grandkids couldn't say, Lola, she was only able to say Lol and the rest followed.
Yes, Lol also had her flavored beer tonight, she requested one bottle only and since it's her birthday, she can have more than one but she ended up drinking just one.

I think I heard about that dialysis treatment, or maybe not. Glad for her very fast recovery!
I dunno why but Lol is just so cute. I haven't even seen her but I conclude that she really is adorable. Elderlies are just so adorable.
