3M Kidnapping
What I am about to tell you guys is a very funny story but also true and thought provoking. While you're laughing at the foolishness of the people who tried to pull something like that off, you are also wondering at the same time how things got to where they are. How things are so bad that people are resorting to all manners of ways to acquire wealth and money that they are even willing to hurt their family.
As you all know from my previous articles, I am currently at home due to the ASUU strike. The impasse between the Federal Government and ASUU hasn't been resolved for the past two months. The union seems to be resolute while the government doesn't seem to care. They have a nonchalant attitude towards the issue. Recently the Minister of Education purchased a nomination form for the presidency from his political party for $240,773 . This shows how much they truly care. This particular matter is an article for another day.
The youths are still at home with nothing to do. Some have kept their hands busy by getting a job or learning a skill like what I have been doing. Others have not been so fortunate and are stuck at home doing nothing. The saying ' the idle mind is the devil's workshop' holds substance in the incident that I am about to narrate.
So a few weeks after the strike the management of the university told all of us to leave the Halls of residence and go home. Only those on IT's were allowed to stay. By this time most of us had already gone home only a few remained. I don't know what they were waiting for. So a few students stayed back illegal and were still living in school with nothing to do and no tangible reason. I guess this is how they were able to come up with their dubious plan.
A boy alongside two of his friends decided to scam his parents of $7,224. The plan was for them to orchestrate a fake kidnapping from the comfort of their hostel. Then they will call the boys parents telling them that their son has been kidnapped and the kidnappers are demanding for that sum of money. The parents will then transfer the money out of fear and just like that, they've made some cool cash with no stress at all. The only problem was that things didn't go according to plan.
Rather than the boy's parent paying the money they reported the kidnapping to the DSS (Nigeria's FBI). They traced the boy to the hostel and found out he wasn't kidnapped at all. Everything was a lie. The campus security allegedly responded to the issue by conducting a thorough search of all hostels for any illegal occupant.
I don't know how true the story is. It might be a rumor peddled by idle students but it just goes to show what happens when the minds of the youths are not engaged positively. How would the boy and his friends be able to think of such an evil idea if the academic union was not on strike. If the school was in session and he was attending classes, I doubt if he would have the space in his head or the time at all to come up with such a plan. When a person is idle his mind becomes a desirable workshop for the devil and his demons.
In Conclusion
A solution to this strike needs to be found as soon as possible. The government needs to stop playing table-tennis with the lives of the youths if not incidents like this will keep happening. Things are already bad the way they are so why add fuel to the already raging fire.
Hahaha! But what is ASUU, thats by the way, it pays to be sincere
