Social Media is as scary as helpful as it is.
Ever since social media came in our lives, we became so happy that it gives a lot of advantages. First and foremost is to connect to our loved ones, and followed by the like about working and studying, doing our favourite stuff online and etcetera.
But most of the things that has advantages usually came with its disadvantages. Like if there's cold, there's hot. You cannot say that a thing is good, if you haven't tried that its bad and vice versa.
How can I say that social media is scary?
As what I've mentioned above, its first advantage is to connect with our loved ones. But have you observed, these days it became a barrier instead?
It is not applicable for all, but from what I observed.
In a family, usually we tend to eat together in our dining table. Eating together is one of the best time a family could have as they can see each other complete, they can talk about life, laugh about jokes, and share each others sentiments. But since most of the family owns a cellphone, the usual set up has changed. Yes, they are still eating together but they seemed not to know each other. One is eating while playing ML. One could be eating while watching YouTube, and the other could be eating while chatting his or her friend and whoever it is. I thought it supposed to connect each other? How come is seems to distance one another instead? Is it like, so close yet so far?
Not only in a family. In a group of friends. One friend would invite his or her friends for a lunch out so that they can catch up on things they haven't talk about anymore because of some reasons we do not know, and to have some friends time and ended up just using phone while having lunch together. Where's the catching up there?
And are you all familiar about this cancel culture thing? This one is so scary for me. Not because I already experienced it, but because I understand the sentiments of people experiencing such.
Are you familiar with this certain sound on TikTok? The You and me were not the same? Then you will share a thing that's different from the other? Like if you are a breadwinner and the other is not? Things like that.
With that, I am actually following this one content creator on Tiktok that most of her videos are POV's of a rich tita. Then one time, she made a video using that You and me were not the same sound and her POV is about the concert ticket. The content goes this way, You and me were not the same, I am on VIP and you are on General Ad.
But you know, netizens were pressed that they did cancel her. Throw some below the belt comments that she doesn't deserve actually, and even throw some bad comments involving her family. Like, she was once idolized by some of those followers who bashed her. See? Its truly so scary. That after you put a smile on people's faces with your contents, then with one mistake not even a mistake you will be cancelled right away. You will be bashed.
I mean, I just observed that some netizens wanted to control others. That if they see something they do not like, they'll say bad things right away. You know, we are entitled to speak out our opinion, but we need to make sure as well when and when not to open our mouth. They wanted you to be true to yourself, and when you show your true colours, they'll throw hate against you. How chaotic it is!
And they even wanted to stop you from posting things, that is not aligned to their liking. Now, where's this my account, my rules?
As long as you are not degrading others, and what you post is not against the regulations of that social media platform, you can do what you want, but not in this generation anymore. The only thing we can do is to think a million times before we click anything on social media.

What who had mentioned are true , remember DJ Loonyo too? On how netizens in social media became crazy on his dance video? But it doesn't last. That is the reason too, I never leave a comment on whatever trending topic on soc med. Its so toxic🤣
